As a Senior Hardware Systems Engineer, you will architect and develop system validation plans for Azure's leading HW solutions by incorporating advanced technologies, datacenter use cases and by working across different engineering functions.\nMicrosoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.\nResponsibilities\nArchitect and develop end-to-end validation strategies from post-silicon environments through platform bring-up, characterization, and production deployment with a goal to identify hardware, firmware, and system-level reliability issues as early as possible \nPartner closely with Architecture, Hardware, Firmware, Security, Manufacturing, Performance Engineering, and Cloud Infrastructure teams to influence platform requirements and readiness. \nDrive execution across multiple programs, balancing deep technical contribution with broad organizational impact. \nDevelop automation and tooling for server validation in collaboration with other teams. \nChampion engineering excellence through data-driven decision making, technical reviews, risk management, and continuous improvement of qualification processes.\nLead cross-functional investigations involving hardware, firmware, operating systems, drivers, and cloud services to identify root causes and define corrective actions. \nDrive resolution of the most complex platform issues impacting Azure platform availability, performance, and reliability. \nInfluence component and platform architecture decisions by partnering with engineering, silicon, firmware, operating system, and service teams across Microsoft. \nProactively seek new knowledge and adapts to new AI trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale. \nQualifications\nRequired Qualifications:\nMaster's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.\n\n5+ years of experience in programing languages such as Python/PowerShell or similar for automation development or integration.\n3+ years of experience with hardware, firmware, and operating system interfaces and interdependencies, CPU and GPU architectures, and system design concepts.\nOther Qualifications:\nAbility to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:\nMicrosoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. \nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience with technologies such as PCIe, memory subsystems, networking, power management, rack device management, and remote device management.\nExperience defining custom hardware tools for platform validation or debugging.\nExperience troubleshooting and debugging complex hardware and platform integration issues.\nExperience using debugging and measurement tools such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and PCIe analyzers.\nExperience evaluating hardware designs, hardware/firmware/operating system interactions, platform configuration trade-offs, and end-to-end error flows.\nExperience with data analytics, data collection and aggregation, and dashboarding.\n#SCHIE\nHardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.\nCertain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
