This role focuses on optimizing infrastructure demand, improving resource utilization, creating capacity, and lowering the cost of operating hyperscale cloud services.\nAs AI adoption and infrastructure demand continue to grow, Microsoft 365 must scale efficiently across compute, memory, storage, and other shared infrastructure resources. The role works at the intersection of product management, engineering, data, infrastructure, and AI to identify high-value efficiency opportunities, translate them into product and engineering investments, and drive measurable outcomes across Microsoft 365 and Azure.\nThe Senior Product Manager will use telemetry, operational signals, benchmarking, experimentation, and cost data to identify infrastructure demand drivers, quantify opportunities, evaluate tradeoffs, and prioritize investments that improve platform efficiency. The role spans workload placement, utilization, capacity management, fleet optimization, resource allocation, rightsizing, autoscaling, and software and architectural optimization.\nThis is an AI-first product management role. The role applies AI agents, automation, AIOps, telemetry, and AI-driven analysis to identify inefficiencies, investigate root causes, evaluate optimization opportunities, accelerate execution, and validate results. The role also contributes to building scalable systems and mechanisms that make efficiency work more proactive, repeatable, and data driven.\nThe role partners closely with service owners, architects, infrastructure engineers, data scientists, finance, and capacity teams across Microsoft 365 and Azure. It is well suited to a technical product manager who can move comfortably between infrastructure architecture, quantitative analysis, product strategy, and execution while driving impact across organizational boundaries.\nMicrosoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Our employees bring a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize shared goals. We build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.\nResponsibilities\nIdentify and prioritize infrastructure efficiency opportunities across Microsoft 365 and Copilot workloads to reduce resource consumption, improve utilization, increase capacity, and lower operating cost.\n\nTranslate resource demand, workload growth, utilization patterns, and capacity constraints into actionable product investments, roadmaps, and engineering priorities.\n\nApply AI agents, automation, telemetry analysis, benchmarking, and experimentation to detect inefficiencies, investigate root causes, identify bottlenecks, and validate optimization opportunities.\n\nPartner closely with engineering teams to understand workload behavior, system architecture, deployment constraints, and performance characteristics in order to drive practical efficiency improvements.\n\nDrive optimization initiatives across compute, storage, networking, data platforms, fleet management, workload placement, autoscaling, resource allocation, and service operations.\n\nUse telemetry, cost signals, operational data, and performance measurements to quantify opportunities, evaluate tradeoffs, and support investment decisions with data.\n\nDevelop business cases that connect technical improvements to measurable outcomes, including capacity creation, utilization improvements, cost reduction, performance, reliability, and platform scalability.\n\nDefine product requirements, success metrics, experiments, and validation plans for infrastructure efficiency investments and optimization efforts.\n\nBuild scalable mechanisms including recommendation systems, scorecards, opportunity tracking, and self-service capabilities that help teams identify and act on efficiency opportunities.\n\nCoordinate execution across engineering, infrastructure, capacity planning, finance, and service teams to deliver measurable efficiency outcomes.\n\nTrack and communicate progress against efficiency goals, ensuring opportunities move from discovery through implementation and impact validation.\n\nTranslate complex technical findings into clear recommendations, roadmaps, and decision material for engineering leaders and stakeholders.\n\nQualifications\nRequired Qualifications:\nBachelor's Degree AND 5+ years experience in product/service/program management or software developmentOR equivalent experience.\n\nOther Requirements:\nAbility to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:\nMicrosoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nBachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software developmentOR equivalent experience.\n\n2+ years experience taking a product, feature, or experience to market (e.g., design, addressing product market fit, and launch, internal tool/framework).\n4+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).\n4+ years experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience (e.g., competitive disruption, taking the place of an established competing product).\nExperience driving products, platforms, or technical initiatives from problem definition through execution and measurable outcomes.\nExperience working with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, AI/ML platforms, large-scale online services, or related infrastructure technologies.\nSolid analytical skills with experience using telemetry, experimentation, operational data, or quantitative models to make product decisions.\nDemonstrated ability to partner with engineering teams and translate technical problems into clear product requirements and priorities.\nExperience with hyperscale cloud infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, capacity management, workload orchestration, or resource optimization.\nExperience driving infrastructure efficiency, cost optimization, demand reduction, capacity creation, resource utilization, or performance-efficiency initiatives.\nExperience applying AI agents, automation, AIOps, machine learning, or AI-driven analysis to product or operational problems.\nExperience with workload placement, rightsizing, autoscaling, capacity planning, fleet management, or runtime optimization.\nExperience building data-driven platforms, recommendation systems, telemetry capabilities, optimization systems, or self-service tools.\nExperience developing business cases and evaluating tradeoffs across performance, user experience, cost, capacity, reliability, and engineering investment.\nProven ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives across engineering and business organizations.\nSolid written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts and influence decisions.\nAbility to operate effectively in ambiguous environments, learn quickly, and independently drive problems from discovery through measurable impact.\nProduct Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year.
