This position offers an opportunity to have a meaningful influence on a revolutionary technology. The research effort includes a diverse staff of theoretical and experimental physicists, hardware designers and software engineers around the world. We are seeking an experimental quantum information physicist, applied physicist, or electrical engineer with a background in qubit measurements to participate in the research and development of our qubits.\nMicrosoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.\nResponsibilities\nDevelop and automate qubit experiments and calibration routines, enabling robust, repeatable, and scalable qubit operation.\n\nProactively identify opportunities to streamline and automate quantum measurements, applying machine learning and AI methods where appropriate to maximize measurement throughput and reproducibility.\n\nGuide cross-team collaboration across Quantum for efficient use of company expertise and work across teams and ensure contact with others. You’ll document work and make available internally and externally to the team to leverage work across teams.\n\nCommunicate results, insights and recommendations clearly to multidisciplinary audiences, enabling data-driven decisions across teams. \nModel and maintain safety and security practices and compliance with policies.\n\nEmbody our culture and values\n\nQualifications\nRequired Qualifications\nDoctorate in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND experience in industry or in a research and development environment, could include completion of a post doctoral research position OR Master's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND solid experience in industry or in a research and development environment OR Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND significant experience in industry or in a research and development environment OR equivalent industry experience.\n\nExperience with low-noise electronic measurements (lockin amplifiers, analog pre-amps, etc.), cryogenic techniques (He3 cryostats or dilution refrigerators) or electrical transport characterization (for semiconductors, dielectrics, and superconductors).\n\nOther Requirements:\nAbility to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:\nMicrosoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.\n\nCitizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations.
