Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.\nResponsibilities\nThe team is looking for a proactive engineer to:\nDesign and develop features for large-scale distributed systems and backend infrastructure services.\n\nHelp improve service reliability, efficiency, scalability, and operational excellence through data-driven engineering.\n\nBuild platform capabilities that optimize resource utilization and workload execution across Microsoft 365 services.\n\nDevelop telemetry, monitoring, diagnostics, and automation solutions to improve system health and operational visibility.\n\nInvestigate production issues and participate in live-site mitigation and recovery efforts.\n\nCollaborate closely with partner teams across Microsoft 365 to deliver end-to-end platform capabilities.\n\nParticipate in design reviews, code reviews, testing, deployment, and operational support.\n\nContinuously learn emerging technologies, distributed systems concepts, and AI-assisted engineering practices.\n\nContribute to a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.\n\nQualifications\nRequired Qualifications:\nBachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nMaster's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python\nOR equivalent experience. \n\nSolid fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and software design.\nExperience developing features or components as part of a service or distributed system.\nAbility to debug issues, write maintainable code, and deliver features end-to-end with appropriate guidance.\nExperience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude, or equivalent tools as part of day-to-day development workflows.\nDemonstrated ability to review, validate, and refine AI-generated code, tests, documentation, and troubleshooting guidance before production use.\nExperience contributing to backend services or distributed systems, including understanding of scalability, reliability, and performance tradeoffs.\nFamiliarity with concurrency, resource management, service-to-service communication, and cloud-native architectures.\nExperience working with telemetry, logging, monitoring, and production diagnostics.\nExposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or similar.\nExperience working with:\nMicroservices and service-oriented architecture\nEvent-driven systems and APIs\nResource management or infrastructure systems\nContainerized or cloud-native environments\nExposure to AI-powered services, large-scale inference workloads, or rapidly changing traffic patterns.\nAbility to effectively collaborate with AI coding assistants and engineering agents to accelerate implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation while maintaining quality and ownership.\nDemonstrated curiosity, continuous learning mindset, and ability to rapidly adapt to new engineering tools and technologies.\nSolid communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.\nExperience collaborating across teams and functions is a plus.\nThis position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.\nMicrosoft is an equal opportunity employer.
