As a Software Engineer within the Microsoft CoreAI Speech Team, you will help design, build, and evolve this platform, leveraging technologies such as Python, Apache Spark, and Microsoft Azure to process large-scale speech, audio, text, and other machine learning data. You will build platform capabilities and automation that make complex data workflows more scalable, reliable, and efficient.\nYou will work at the intersection of distributed systems, data engineering, speech, and AI technologies, contributing to the architecture and implementation of systems that support large-scale AI data processing. Join us and help build the data foundation for the next generation of speech and AI experiences.\nResponsibilities\nIn this role, you will:\nDesign, build, and evolve a large-scale agentic data processing platform for speech and AI model development.\n\nDevelop data processing systems and platform capabilities using Python, Apache Spark/PySpark, and Microsoft Azure.\n\nBuild capabilities that support data acquisition and generation, processing, filtering, quality validation, and data preparation across large-scale data workflows.\n\nDesign tools, abstractions, and automation that make complex data processing workflows easier to develop, operate, and scale.\n\nIntegrate AI and agentic capabilities into data processing workflows to improve automation and developer productivity.\n\nDebug and optimize interactions across data processing, distributed compute, AI models, and cloud infrastructure.\n\nContribute to technical design and implementation across the software development lifecycle.\n\nMaintain high standards for code quality, testing, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence.\n\nCollaborate closely with engineers, applied scientists, researchers, and partner teams to translate speech and AI data requirements into production-ready platform capabilities.\n\nYou will contribute to a rewarding engineering culture through thoughtful design discussions, code reviews, and collaboration across teams. You'll have the opportunity to help shape the architecture and technical direction of a new platform while growing your technical scope across data, cloud, speech, and AI systems.\nQualifications\nRequired Qualifications:\nBachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Python, C#, C++, or Java\nOR equivalent experience.\n\nOther Requirements:\nAbility to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. \n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nSolid software engineering skills, including software design, implementation, testing, debugging, and code quality. \nExperience developing production software using Python, C#, or another modern programming language.\n\nExperience with Apache Spark/PySpark and large-scale data processing.\n\nExperience with distributed systems, data engineering technologies, or large-scale data processing platforms.\n\nProven programming experience with Python and/or C#/.NET.\n\nExperience designing and developing cloud-based services, systems, or data platforms, particularly on Microsoft Azure or comparable cloud platforms.\n\nExperience building production-quality data platforms, data pipelines, or workflow orchestration systems.\n\nExperience working with speech, audio, text, or machine learning data.\n\nExperience with AI/ML systems, large language models, agents, or agentic workflows.\n\nExperience with Databricks or similar distributed data processing platforms.\n\nProven problem-solving and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to work across software, data, infrastructure, and AI components.\n\nSoftware Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.\nCertain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
