The Assistant Operations Manager serves as a key link between frontline supervisors and the Operations Manager, ensuring consistent execution of operational plans, policies, and performance expectations. This is an active, hands-on managerial role, leading the team from the yard. The primary schedule for this position will be Monday- Friday, 11am-7pm, Saturday availability is required to adhere to a rotating schedule.\nKey Responsibilities\nAssist in managing day-to-day yard operations, including shredding, downstream and yard material flow. \nCoordinate daily and weekly production priorities with all department Leads. \nMonitor throughput, downtime, and material flow to support production targets and minimize bottlenecks. \nStep in to supervise operations during the Operations Manager’s absence.\nCoordinate with EHS Specialist & HR to ensure a strong safety culture, enforce all safety and company polies and procedures. \nParticipate in safety meetings, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action plans. \nEnsure environmental compliance related to ELV processing, fluid removal, depollution, stormwater, and housekeeping standards.\nOperate heavy equipment including material handlers, front loaders and others for training purposes and as needed. \nMotivate and engage the team to ensure safety, production and compliance. \nReinforce proper PPE use, equipment operation, and safe work practices.\nSupport implementation of continuous improvement initiatives and operational best practices.\nRequirements\n5-7 years of experience in metal recycling, scrap processing, heavy industrial operations, or a similar environment. \nPrior supervisory or lead experience in a yard, shredder, ELV, or processing operation. \nMA Hoisting license 2a1c \nStrong working knowledge of ELV depollution, shredder feed preparation, and ferrous/non-ferrous segregation. \nDemonstrated commitment to safety and environmental compliance. \nAbility to lead, motivate, and hold teams accountable.\nFamiliarity with OSHA and environmental regulations related to recycling operations. \nMechanical aptitude or experience working alongside maintenance teams. \nBilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.\nWorking Conditions\nWork is performed outdoors in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.\nRequires standing, lifting, and operating machinery for extended periods.\nUse of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.\nPLEASE NOTE: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
