The postholder will prepare, maintain\nand support the safe use of specialist equipment, tools, materials and learning environments,\nensuring facilities are fit for purpose and practical sessions run effectively.\nThe postholder will support lecturers and students during practical activities, provide guidance\non the safe and effective use of equipment, assist with student projects and practical\nassessments, and maintain high standards of health and safety, organisation and equipment\ncare. The role will contribute to an effective, industry-relevant learning environment that supports\nthe development of students’ technical skills and knowledge.\nMain Responsibilities and Duties:\nThe following outlines the key duties expected of this role as directed by the Executive Director\nor relevant Director. It is not an exhaustive list but represents the primary responsibilities:\n1. Prepare, set up and dismantle equipment, tools, materials and resources for practical\nclasses, demonstrations and assessments.\n2. Provide technical support to lecturers and students, demonstrating the safe and effective use\nof specialist equipment, tools, machinery and software.\n3. Maintain IoT facilities, workshops and Construction Skills Factory areas in a safe, clean,\norganised and operational condition.\n4. Carry out routine equipment checks, cleaning and basic maintenance in accordance with\nmanufacturer guidance and College procedures.\n5. Identify equipment faults, undertake basic troubleshooting and report defects, arranging\nspecialist repairs where necessary.\n6. Monitor stock levels, maintain accurate equipment and maintenance records, and assist with\nordering materials, consumables and replacement equipment.\n7. Ensure tools, equipment, materials and hazardous substances are stored, handled and\ndisposed of safely\n8. Follow risk assessments and safe systems of work, promoting compliance with health and\nsafety legislation and College procedures.\n9. Monitor workshop safety, report hazards, accidents and near misses, and support health and\nsafety inspections.\n10. Provide practical guidance to students undertaking projects and assignments, supporting the\nsafe use of equipment and development of technical skills.\n11. Assist students with practical tasks, testing and basic technical problem-solving, working\nalongside lecturers as required.\n12. Support the operation, installation and maintenance of specialist technologies, software and\nequipment relevant to the IoT curriculum.\n13. Assist with equipment servicing, inspections and calibration schedules, maintaining\nappropriate records and reporting any concerns.\n14. Contribute to improving workshop procedures, equipment availability and the efficient use of\nfacilities and resources.\n15.
