So, if you’re looking to do big work in a small-team environment, Midrex is just the place for you.\nQualifications\nJob Summary: Specify, design, troubleshoot, and seek opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation of the Midrex proprietary equipment for the start-up and operation of Direct Reduced Iron making plants and new technology initiatives.\nSupervisory Responsibilities:\nSenior Equipment Engineers act as equipment discipline leads providing technical support for various projects and initiatives. Senior Equipment Engineers will not have direct reports but will assign work to other engineers and designers.\nDuties/Responsibilities:\nPerform designs and mechanical analyses through calculations basic to Mechanical Engineering.\nSketch conceptual designs, transferring ideas to the designers for development of mechanical drawings.\nCoordinate the mechanical equipment design effort by acting as Lead Equipment Engineer for projects by:directing the efforts of assigned engineers and designers for the layout and design of equipment,\nchecking mechanical equipment drawings, calculations, and sketches for the project,\ndeveloping specifications and requisitions for support of purchasing effort,\nreview and approve purchasing quotations, vendor drawings, and QA documents, \ncoordinate tasks and design interfaces with outside engineering consultants and clients,\ncoordinate project tasks while meeting the project schedule and engineering hour budget, and\ntravel for project meetings, inspections, on-site training of plant staff for proprietary equipment, and extended stays at the project site during commissioning and start up. \n\nProvide technical support for the Aftermarket, Inspections, and Purchasing departments with review of proposals, vendor submittals, and on-site inspections of mechanical equipment.\nCoordinate long-term design cycles and schedules.\nProvide direction, technical support, and mentoring for other engineers and designers.\nAnalyze designed and vendor supplied equipment for adherence to engineering specifications, required codes & standards, and project requirements.\nCheck drawings and drafting for adherence to designs.\nUse Innovation Engineering, New Technology programs, and Technical Improvement initiatives to develop new and improved designs and foster continuous improvement and innovation.\nReview designs and assist other Engineers and Management by making suggestions to improve an existing or proposed design relative to its function.\nTravel to fabrication facilities and plant sites to analyze equipment, collect data and information, interact with plant and fabricator personnel, perform on-site inspections and gain experience valuable to design considerations (i.e., operating conditions, temperature considerations, etc.).\nTravel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental, project, and corporate tasks and functions.\nWrite Requisitions, Specifications, Quality Documents, Operation and Maintenance Manuals, and other technical documents as required to carry out departmental tasks and functions.\nProvide support to the Sales and Estimating groups for the preparation of proposals, including sizing and selection of equipment, plant layout, and engineering man-hour estimates.\nWork as a teammate with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.\nSkills/Abilities:\nRequired:\nAdvanced computer skills including use of Microsoft Office. \nBasic use of Autodesk products or equivalent software.\nExcellent base of mechanical engineering technical skills, knowledge of processes, and the application of sound engineering practices.\nUtilize mechanical engineering principles for complex problem solving.\nProvide technical advisory services for field erection, commissioning, and plant shut down activities.\nKnowledge and understanding of materials including special alloys, material selection, and their use in mechanical equipment design.\nApplication of ASME Codes and Standards, specifically ASME Section VIII and IX.\nAdvanced knowledge and understanding of fabrication, welding, and manufacturing practices.\nIndustrial scrubber and cooler systems specification and design.\nExcellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.\nMulti-task while meeting schedule and deliverable deadlines.\nCoordinate design schedules with designers, engineers, and other departments.\nIndustrial plant experience.\nInternational travel experience and willingness to stay for extended periods at a plant site.\nPreferred:\nComputer aided simulation/analysis of Mechanical Equipment designs (Finite Element Analysis, Compress, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, etc.)\nDesign and inspection of welded joints for mechanical equipment, including Non-Destructive Examination training or certification.\nPiping and ductwork design and stress analysis including hangers, supports, and thermal expansion.\nDirect Reduction and/or steel industry experience.\nEducation and Experience:\nBachelor of Science Mechanical or other Mechanical/Materials based Engineering discipline Degree; Bachelor of Science Mechanical or other Mechanical/Materials based Engineering Technology Degree. \nMinimum 10 years experience in an industrial or technical environment, preferably related to the steel industry or demonstrated ability to serve as a discipline lead on a Midrex project. \nTravel Requirements:\n10% - 30% International and Domestic based upon project demands and periodically more during specific project stages.\nPhysical Requirements:\nProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.\nAbility to move around an industrial plant site, including safely climbing inside and around equipment.\nOther Duties:\nPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
