So, if you’re looking to do big work in a small-team environment, Midrex is just the place for you.\nQualifications\nPosition Summary:\nThe Senior Mechanical Engineer provide design of systems and equipment associated with the design and construction of Direct Reduction plants and new technology initiatives.\nSupervisory Responsibilities:\nSenior engineers act as mechanical discipline leads providing technical support for various projects and initiatives. Senior engineers will not have direct reports but will assign work to other engineers and designers.\nDuties/Responsibilities:\nPerform designs and mechanical analyses through calculations basic to Mechanical Engineering with direction from a Senior Mechanical Engineer, if necessary.\nSketch conceptual designs, transferring ideas to the designers for development of mechanical drawings.\nCoordinate the mechanical design effort by acting as Lead Mechanical Engineer for projects by:directing the efforts of assigned engineers and designers for the layout of equipment, etc.,\nchecking mechanical drawings, calculations, sketches, etc. for the project,\ndeveloping specifications/requisitions for support of purchasing effort, and\nreview and approve purchasing quotations, vendor drawings, and QA documents.\n\nProvide technical support for the Aftermarket, Inspections, & Purchasing departments with review of vendor submittals and on-site inspections of mechanical equipment.\nProvide direction and technical support for designers.\nAnalyze designed and vendor supplied equipment for adherence to engineering specifications, required codes & standards, and project requirements.\nCheck drawings and drafting for adherence to designs.\nDevelop new technology designs and incorporation to larger systems.\nReview designs and assist other Senior Engineers and Management by making suggestions to improve an existing or proposed design relative to its function.\nTravel to fabrication workshops and job sites to analyze equipment, collect data and information, interact with plant & fabricator personnel, perform on-site inspections and gain experience valuable to design considerations (i.e., operating conditions, temperature considerations, etc.).\nTravel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental, project, & corporate tasks and functions.\nWrite Technical Specifications for mechanical equipment design, fabrication, procurement, etc.\nProvide support to the Sales and Estimating groups in preparation of proposals, including sizing and selection of equipment, plant layout, and engineering man-hour estimates.\nWork as a \"team player\" with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.\nCoordinate projects with outside engineering consultants and Clients.\nPropose and design equipment design improvements.\nProvide mentorship to mechanical engineers and designers.\nSkills/Abilities:\nRequired:\nBasic computer skills including use of Microsoft and Autodesk products.\nExcellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.\nAbility to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines.\nExcellent base of mechanical engineering technical skills and knowledge of processes.\nAbility to use mechanical engineering principles for complex problem solving.\nPreferred:\nInternational travel experience.\nIndustrial plant experience.\nComputer aided simulation/analysis of Mechanical Equipment designs (FEA, CFD, Heat Transfer, etc.) \nDesign of Dust Collection systems with adherence to NFPA and local codes.\nDesign of industrial Fire Protection systems with adherence to NFPA and local codes.\nUtilize design software for piping and gas system analysis/layout.\nDesign and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems.\nPiping design and stress analysis including selection of pipe hangers and supports.\nMaterial Handling system specification, layout, and design.\nWater Treatment systems specification, layout, and design.\nSpecification, startup, and troubleshooting of water pump systems.\nEducation and Experience:\nBachelor of Science Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Degree; Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Technology Degree. \nMinimum 10 years experience in an industrial or technical environment, preferably related to steel industry.\nTravel Requirements:\n10% - 25% International and Domestic based upon project demands\nPhysical Requirements:\nProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.\nAbility to move around a project site, including climbing structures.\nOther Duties:\nPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
