Small and medium businesses are the backbone of the German economy, and a painful share of their time and cash disappears into compliance. Bookkeeping, VAT returns, annual accounts. Mandatory, joyless, overpriced.

We are building the infrastructure that changes it. Since none of this work is optional, it is closer to infrastructure than to software, and our reason to do it is to lower the cost of doing business in Germany.

Eight months took us from 100 to more than 700 customers, and we are still small. That shapes every role here: a whole area to own, more to build than there are people, and scope that expands with you. English is our working language, the team is international, the market is German.

Tasks

We are looking for a very particular kind of person.

Somebody who can move a brand forward in words, in images and emotionally, all three at once. How we come across is one thing, not three, and it falls apart the moment the copy, the visuals and the feeling get decided separately by people pulling in different directions.

Here is why it matters more here than in most companies. Our subject is bookkeeping, finance and annual accounts. Objectively one of the least exciting things a business owner deals with, and an industry that looks and sounds exactly like that. Our entire bet is that we do not feel like that industry: approachable, likeable, close to the customer, never intimidating. Somebody has to hold that line in every ad, every page, every video and every email, and keep holding it as the volume goes up.

We are asking people to hand over their books. Whether they trust us enough to do that is largely decided by how we come across, long before anybody speaks to sales. That is why this is one of our first senior hires rather than a later one.

how the job actually works

You make things. With AI in the loop, and without needing somebody else to execute before anything can go out.

That does not mean being the best in the room at everything. It means being good enough across the board to move on your own, and then deliberately bringing in people who are better than you at specific things. Freelancers first, colleagues later. A motion designer who is stronger than you are. An illustrator with a hand you do not have.

What stays with you either way is the judgment: what goes out, what does not, and why.

what you will do

• Own how mika sounds and looks everywhere: ads, landing pages, website, social, video, decks, events
• Write and make. Headlines, ad copy, page copy, campaign concepts, and the visuals that carry them.
• Make a dry subject genuinely good. Boring is a choice, not a property of the material.
• Hold the standard for everything the company publishes, including work made elsewhere in the team or bought outside
• Build the system: components, templates and copy patterns, so good work does not depend on you being in the room
• Build the bench. Bring or find the freelancers, brief them properly, and judge what comes back.
• Own our visual identity refresh, across brand and the product surfaces

Requirements

what you bring to the table

• AI-native, and able to judge what comes out of it. Claude or an equivalent is your daily sparring partner. Generating is the easy part here: the value is that you can look at ten outputs and know which one is right and why. That judgment is what we are actually hiring.
• Words and images from the same person. Show us work where you wrote the copy as well as made the piece.
• Solid fundamentals on both sides: type, layout, hierarchy and restraint, and a voice that sounds like a person rather than a brand guideline
• You have made a dry or technical subject feel good, not just look tidy
• Brand work and performance work in the same career
• A network of freelancers you can pull on: motion, design, illustration, video, content. A strong plus, and the thing that makes a small team look bigger than it is.
• You can take a weak asset apart on the spot and say what is wrong with it, in the copy and in the layout the level we are hiring at

Senior enough that nobody needs to brief you on what good looks like. We have a strong bias towards people who have been entrepreneurs themselves.

We are not hiring a head of brand above you. The intention is that this role becomes it as the team grows.

nice to have

• A rebrand or identity refresh you carried through to implementation. Motion and video craft. Product and UX design alongside brand. Fintech, tax, insurance or another category where trust has to be designed. Webflow.

German at C2 or above is required. You are writing the copy, and in this market whether a line lands cannot be judged in translation. English at B2 or above, since it is our working language.

Benefits

Base 65,000 to 90,000 EUR depending on experience, plus stock options.

Three rounds: an intro conversation, a working session with a short case, and a final round with the founders. Depending on seniority there is an optional fourth conversation with one of our investors or mentors. One meeting happens in person in Berlin, and you hear back within a week at every stage, including if the answer is no.
