You will develop cloud-native, event-driven systems that connect our charging infrastructure, customers, operations and business processes across Europe.\nReporting to the Head of Software Engineering, you will take technical ownership of complex solutions across the full software development lifecycle, from architecture and design through implementation, deployment and operations. You will work closely with Product, Data and Engineering teams to translate business requirements into secure, scalable and reliable technical solutions.\nYou will also help shape engineering standards and ways of working within the team, driving engineering excellence through automation, DevOps practices, AI-assisted software development, technical leadership, mentoring and continuous improvement.\nWhat you will do\nYou will design and lead the development of complex event-driven services, APIs and distributed applications using TypeScript, Node.js and modern cloud-native technologies, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, resilient and maintainable.\n\nYou will take technical ownership of solutions within our Core Systems landscape, making architectural and design decisions while balancing scalability, reliability, security and long-term maintainability.\n\nYou will contribute to customer-facing applications and internal platforms, including React-based applications and components that integrate seamlessly with back-end services.\n\nYou will design and optimise databases, data models and data flows, ensuring applications meet security, reliability and performance requirements throughout the software lifecycle.\n\nYou will drive improvements in CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, observability and deployment practices, leveraging cloud-native services, containerisation and serverless technologies.\n\nYou will use AI-assisted development tools and emerging AI capabilities to improve software development, testing, troubleshooting, documentation and engineering productivity, while ensuring solutions remain secure, reliable and maintainable.\n\nYou will identify opportunities to integrate AI capabilities into our platforms, products and engineering workflows where they can create meaningful business or operational value.\n\nYou will troubleshoot complex technical and operational issues, lead root cause analysis and implement structural improvements that strengthen platform resilience, availability and performance.\n\nYou will provide technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers, supporting strong engineering standards, knowledge sharing and effective technical decision-making across the team.\n\nYou will collaborate closely with Software Engineering, Data, Product and business stakeholders to translate complex business needs into effective technical solutions.\n\nYou will proactively identify opportunities to improve our architecture, development practices, tooling and ways of working as Milence’s platform and charging network continue to scale.\n\nRequirements\nWhat you bring\nYou hold a bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science or a related field and have significant professional experience designing, developing and operating cloud-native software applications.\n\nYou have strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js and are comfortable working with React or similar front-end frameworks.\n\nYou have strong experience building and operating cloud solutions on Azure, AWS or GCP and working with event-driven architectures, microservices, APIs and distributed systems.\n\nYou have experience making technical and architectural design decisions for complex, business-critical software solutions and understand the trade-offs involved in building systems at scale.\n\nYou have a strong understanding of database design, data modelling, security and performance optimisation.
