About the Role: Smeraldi's Host/Cashier

As our Smeraldi's Host/Cashier, you will play an integral role in delivering an exceptional guest experience while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests warmly upon arrival and provide a professional, welcoming first impression.
  • Manage reservations, waitlists, and seating arrangements to maximize dining room efficiency and guest satisfaction.
  • Escort guests to their tables and present menus while communicating daily specials and restaurant information.
  • Coordinate with servers, bartenders, and management to ensure smooth guest flow and timely table turnover.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, respond to guest inquiries, and assist with reservations and restaurant information.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system to process guest payments accurately, including cash, credit card, and room charge transactions.
  • Balance cash drawer and complete end-of-shift reconciliation according to company procedures.
  • Address guest concerns professionally and escalate issues to management when necessary to ensure exceptional service recovery.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming host stand, entrance, and lobby areas.
  • Monitor dining room capacity and communicate seating updates with management and service staff.
  • Support opening and closing procedures, including preparing the host station, menus, and cashier supplies.
  • Follow all company policies, health and safety standards, and luxury hospitality service expectations.
  • Collaborate with the front-of-house team to provide an exceptional dining experience for every guest.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience as a host/hostess, cashier, or in a customer service or hospitality role preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with a friendly, professional demeanor.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with guests and team members.
  • Experience operating a point-of-sale (POS) system and handling cash, credit card, and other payment transactions accurately.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage reservations, waitlists, and guest flow in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math skills and attention to detail for accurate cash handling and transaction processing.
  • Ability to remain calm, courteous, and solution-oriented during busy service periods.
  • Professional appearance and commitment to maintaining luxury hospitality standards.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff members and management.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Food Handler Card required or ability to obtain prior to employment, as required by local regulations.
