Finance Revenue Cycle Director Job Description

Position Summary

The Finance Revenue Cycle Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the revenue cycle, including insurance verification, prior authorizations, claims management, payment posting, denial management, accounts receivable, collections, reimbursement optimization, and related financial performance. The Director provides strategic leadership, develops departmental goals, monitors financial and revenue cycle performance, and partners with leadership to support the organization's financial objectives.

Leadership & Team Management

• Provide strategic leadership, coaching, and development for billing and insurance team members.
• Oversee onboarding, training, performance management, and staff development.
• Establish department goals, productivity standards, and performance expectations.
• Conduct performance evaluations and development planning.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Revenue Cycle Operations

• Direct insurance verification and prior authorization processes.
• Oversee claims submission, payment posting, denial management, and follow-up.
• Monitor accounts receivable and collections performance.
• Ensure timely and accurate claims processing.
• Develop and implement best practices to maximize reimbursement and improve revenue cycle efficiency.

Financial Performance

• Monitor revenue cycle metrics, reimbursement trends, and financial performance.
• Develop action plans to improve collections, reduce denials, and optimize cash flow.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Prepare and present performance reports and financial insights to leadership.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial controls, processes, and operational performance.

Compliance & Quality

• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, payer requirements, and applicable healthcare regulations.
• Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and corrective action planning.
• Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Five years of healthcare revenue cycle experience.
• Three years of leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of medical billing, insurance reimbursement, and revenue cycle operations.
• Experience with EMR and practice management systems.
• Strong analytical, financial, leadership, and communication skills.
