And our success allows Geiger to support causes that align with our values, so we can build a more sustainable, equitable, and beautiful future for everyone.\nSCHEDULE: MON - THURS 3:30pm - 2am, FRIDAYS AS NEEDED\nGENERAL PURPOSE\nThe Wood Rough Mill Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring rough mill equipment used to process lumber into dimensioned components for manufacturing. This position ensures material is cut accurately and efficiently while meeting quality standards, production requirements, and safety expectations. The Rough Mill Operator works as part of a manufacturing team and supports continuous improvement efforts to maximize productivity and minimize waste.\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\nOperate rough mill machinery including rip saws, crosscut saws, gang saws, chop saws, straight-line saws, and other wood-processing equipment.\n\nInspect lumber for defects, grade requirements, dimensions, and quality specifications prior to processing.\n\nSet up and adjust machinery to achieve required dimensions and production standards.\n\nMonitor machine performance and make adjustments as necessary to maintain quality and efficiency.\n\nMeasure and verify cut parts using tape measures, gauges, calipers, and other measuring devices.\n\nSort, stack, and stage processed materials according to production schedules and work orders.\n\nRemove defective materials and identify opportunities to maximize lumber yield and reduce waste.\n\nConduct routine machine cleaning and preventive maintenance tasks.\n\nReport equipment malfunctions, quality issues, and safety concerns to supervisors or maintenance personnel.\n\nMaintain accurate production records and material tracking documentation as required.\n\nFollow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and company operating procedures.\n\nSupport Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.\n\nCross-train in related departments and equipment operations as needed.\n\nMaintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with housekeeping standards.\n\nPerform additional duties as assigned to support business objectives.\n\n QUALIFICATIONS\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nEducation/Experience\nOne of the following is required: (1) High school diploma or its equivalent (GED for example), (2) work experience which demonstrates performance competency\n\nPrevious manufacturing, woodworking, lumber processing, sawmill, rough mill, or related work experience demonstrating the ability to perform job requirements successfully.\n\nSkills and Abilities\nBasic math skills, including counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and measurement calculations.\n\nAbility to accurately read and interpret production schedules, work orders, specifications, and cut lists.\n\nProficient in the use of measuring devices including tape measures, rulers, calipers, and gauges.\n\nKnowledge of wood species, grain patterns, defects, and lumber grading principles preferred.\n\nAbility to safely operate and troubleshoot woodworking machinery.\n\nAbility to identify quality concerns and make appropriate process adjustments.\n\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.\n\nAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.\n\nAbility to work cooperatively within a team and support production goals.\n\nDemonstrated willingness to adapt to changing priorities and production demands.\n\nAbility to follow written and verbal instructions.\n\nUnderstanding of workplace safety requirements and safe material handling practices.\n\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
