This position is responsible for responding to emergency incidents and performing firefighting duties as assigned. Please note, candidates must be available to work variable hours on an on-call basis.\nMajor Job Responsibilities\nMajor Job Responsibilities:\nResponds to a wide range of emergency incidents to provide assistance in the rescuing, protection, and preservation of lives, property, and the environment within the Incident Command System\n\nPerforms fire ground operations including confining, controlling and extinguishing fires; search, rescue and evacuation of individuals; exposure protection; salvage and overhaul in accordance with departmental policies and guidelines\n\nPerform a variety of rescue-related duties to protect the public and reduce further injuries related to motor vehicle accidents, high-level rescue, confined space, ice and water rescue, and industrial accidents, etc.\n\nProvides emergency medical care including conducting patient assessments, obtaining vital signs, administering first aid, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and/or defibrillation, preparing patients for transport, and assisting paramedics as required\n\nDrive and operate fire apparatus and support vehicles within the parameters of the Highway Traffic Act\n\nPerforms routine cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of stations, apparatus, and equipment to ensure operational readiness and extend service life\n\nAttends and delivers public education programs and messaging at events, station tours, and community functions to promote fire safety awareness and enhance community engagement\n\nAttends weekly station training and other training as required\n\nComply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines. and the Occupational Health & Safety Act\n\nPerform other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives\n\nEducation & Experience\nEducation:\nSecondary School diploma or academic equivalent is required\n\nPreferred:\nPre-Service Firefighter Training and Education Certificate\n\nPost-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a related field\n\nParamedic Diploma from a recognized institution or equivalent\n\nPreferred Experience:\nPrevious or current experience as a firefighter or paramedic\n\nPrevious or current experience in a skilled trade or mechanical field demonstrating the ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot tools, machinery, and equipment safely and effectively\n\nPreferred Certifications and Designations:\nNFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II Certified (ProBoard, IFSAC or OFMEM equivalency)\n\nNFPA 1072 HazMat Awareness\n\nValid “D” Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement with satisfactory driver’s abstract\n\nFire Alarm Technician\n\nEmergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification\n\nProvincial designation Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant (AEMCA)\n\nStandard First Aid\n\nCardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Level C\n\nAdditional Job Skills\nDelivers exceptional customer service while consistently maintaining professionalism, integrity, and composure in all interactions\n\nExcellent oral and written communication\n\nApplicants must be capable of handling intense and sustained physical activity\n\nGeneral Information\nApplicants must be a resident of Milton to apply and work for Milton Fire & Rescue Services\n\nSuccessful candidates must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License Class “G” with a satisfactory driving record.
