As the Performing Arts Instructor, you’ll be responsible for providing instruction and artistic support to Junior and Senior Performing Arts classes at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton, ages 7 - 12. This position reports to the Coordinator, Cultural Services (Programming & Outreach).\nMajor Job Responsibilities\nMajor Job Responsibilities\nProgram implementation with a focus on quality customer experiences:\nEnsure a safe and well-supervised learning environment is provided, while encouraging individuals to actively participate\n\nProvide participants with a program outline for the season\n\nFacilitate a lecture and or demonstration of an assigned topic at each class\n\nEnsure daily programming is adapted to all program participant needs\n\nReceive all parent/participant (as applicable based on programming) concerns and communicate concerns or incidents to supervisor\n\nProvide sufficient time for participants to work independently and provide one-on-one assistance when required\n\nProvide guidance and oversight of volunteers\n\nProvide guidance and oversight of assistant staff\n\nEstablish positive relationships and clear communication channels with all staff and participants\n\nMaintain a safe and clean facility including proper usage and use of equipment. Proactively communicate program needs to facility operations staff and communicate any facility or equipment deficiencies to supervisor.\n\nEvaluate situations for potential risks and proactively take action to address such risks. Communicate any action or concerns to supervisor.\n\nMaintain communication with customer service desk to provide relevant program updates and to request support in the event of an emergency\n\nMaintain a high level of professionalism and handle sensitive situations with mature judgement.\n\nComply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act\n\nAdministrative Tasks:\nDevelop and prepare a material list and lesson plans to meet the needs of the program and participants\n\nModify lesson plans as necessary based on program participant needs\n\nProvide lesson plans, regular updates and feedback to immediate Supervisor\n\nAttend all mandatory staff functions: training, meetings and all allocated program times\n\nReport any accidents, incidents, to the Coordinator, ensuring all appropriate forms are filled out accurately and completed\n\nSubmit required forms (including payroll)\n\nMaintain accurate attendance and other administrative records as required\n\nEducation & Experience\nEducation & Experience\nSecondary School Diploma\n\nMinimum of three (3) years teaching/program instruction experience\n\nStandard First Aid and CPR C\n\nHIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (children’s programs)\n\nNCCP required for sports related programming\n\nPost-Secondary Education related to specialized field (i.e. visual art, design and/or craft, drama, music, dance) is preferred\n\nEarly Childhood Education Certificate (children’s programs) is an asset\n\nCertifications/workshops in a related field is an asset\n\nCrisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent is an asset\n\nStrong knowledge and aptitude in a specific area of interest/specialized field (e.g. art history, including contemporary practice, languages, music, dance, wellness)\n\nFamiliar with a variety of artistic techniques, practices and materials with one or more of the following interests/skills: painting, drawing, ceramics, pottery, hand building, clay sculpture (Visual Art programs only) or drama, music, choreography, dance, theatre (Performing Art programs only)\n\nSatisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening\n\nExcellent interpersonal and communication skills\n\nEffective program planning and service delivery skills\n\nExperience working with targeted age group and persons with special need is an asset\n\nNote to Applicants\nThis posting is for an existing job vacancy.\nThe Town is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, accessible, and respectful workplace.
