Role Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the design, development, validation, and release of embedded electronic systems and technology platforms. This role will translate product needs into robust technical requirements and architectures while collaborating with global Engineering, Product, Test, Operations, suppliers, and manufacturing partners. The engineer will make system- and component-level tradeoffs, guide technical execution, mentor less-experienced engineers, and drive designs from early investigation through qualification and production.

You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities

· Lead the design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of embedded electronic hardware and supporting firmware for complex product and platform projects.

· Develop and technically lead analog and digital circuit designs that may include microcontrollers, power supplies, sensors, communication interfaces, protection circuits, and signal-conditioning functions.

· Own and review schematics and PCB implementation, perform circuit simulations and design analyses, and drive best practices for signal integrity, noise margin, reliability, cost, testability, and manufacturability.

· Lead the development of system and subsystem requirements, test plans, procedures, and test cases for electronic components, printed circuit board assemblies, subsystems, and complete products.

· Use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, data-acquisition systems, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and protocol analyzers as applicable.

· Conduct experiments, analyze data using appropriate statistical methods, document results, and draw concise, logical conclusions that guide design decisions.

· Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of complex hardware, firmware-interaction, test, and manufacturing issues with urgency and disciplined problem solving.

· Lead technical tradeoff discussions and recommend solutions that balance performance, user needs, schedule, cost, reliability, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing capability.

· Collaborate with component suppliers and manufacturing partners to select components, address availability or quality concerns, and support successful product launch and production.

· Work with cross-functional and global teams to incorporate platform-based design approaches and reusable technical solutions across product categories.

· Own technical work breakdowns and project commitments, identify risks early, and communicate status, decisions, and recommendations to technical teams and management.

· Prepare agendas, facilitate technical reviews, document decisions and action items, and deliver clear presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.

· Mentor engineers and technicians in project execution, root-cause analysis, circuit and PCB design, validation, and PCBA manufacturing while modeling Milwaukee Tool culture and engineering best practices.

· Build and maintain knowledge of Milwaukee Tool development and manufacturing processes to support efficient, high-quality mass production.

· Lead technology investigations, define reusable architectures, and develop platform strategies that support multiple products or product categories.

· Partner with product leaders and cross-functional engineering teams to translate user and business needs into technical solutions and release plans.

· Provide technical leadership during design reviews, risk assessments, supplier discussions, and manufacturing readiness activities.

· Lead design qualification and support certification to applicable safety, EMC, wireless, and product standards based on the scope of the design.

What TOOLS you'll bring with you

· Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

· 5+ years of experience in embedded systems, electrical hardware design, product development, validation, or a closely related engineering role.

· Strong knowledge of embedded systems, analog and digital circuit design, PCBA design and manufacturing, and power-electronics fundamentals.

· Proficiency with schematic-capture, PCB-layout, and circuit-simulation tools, with the ability to apply industry design best practices.

· Proficiency in translating product needs into system, subsystem, and component-level requirements and in making component and architecture selections.

· Proficiency with standard electronics laboratory equipment and specialized test equipment relevant to embedded or communications systems.

· Working knowledge of C programming, microcontroller peripherals, and the interaction between firmware and electronics in embedded systems.

· Demonstrated technical leadership and strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence decisions and explain tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.

· Excellent problem-solving skills, sound independent judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

· Self-motivated, organized, efficient, process-oriented, and committed to high-quality engineering work.

· Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, domestically and internationally.

Other TOOLS we prefer you to have

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Experience with embedded communications, Bluetooth Low Energy, wired serial interfaces, antenna or RF circuits, power management, or ultra-low-power electronic design.

Knowledge of firmware development tools and an additional programming language such as Python or C++.

Experience with design of experiments, automated test development, data acquisition, or statistical analysis.

Knowledge of electronic component reliability, failure modes, design for manufacturability, and design for test.

Familiarity with applicable regulatory and certification standards such as UL, FCC, ISED/IC, CE, CEC, or ANSI.

Hands-on experience with soldering, rework, prototype assembly, and test-fixture development.

We provide these great perks and benefits

  • Robust health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Generous 401(k) savings plan.
  • Education assistance.
  • On-site wellness, fitness center, food, and coffee service.
