This role combines hands-on ownership of the monthly close process, financial reporting, technical accounting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls with responsibility for team development, process optimization, and cross-functional collaboration. As a key partner and backup to the Controller, the Assistant Controller provides financial insights, recommendations, and operational support to the Controller and Chief Financial Officer to enable sound decision-making and sustainable organizational growth.\nThe ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, sound professional judgment, and a collaborative, service-oriented approach. They are passionate about continuous improvement and leverage technology, automation, and appropriately governed artificial intelligence tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, transparency, and team capacity while maintaining strong financial controls and compliance standards.\nAbout Mindful Support Services\nWe are a business-to-business support service for independent mental healthcare businesses, which helps providers service a growing client base. Our teams support over 2,500+ independent mental health providers, across 7 states and virtually via Telehealth.\nWe have built the Mindful Therapy Group brand from the ground up with years of dedication to solving the complex processes of the healthcare landscape in innovative ways, creating a platform geared toward growth, and working to meet our mission of creating improved access to high quality mental healthcare.\nResponsibilities\nAccounting Operations and Financial Reporting\nCoordinate and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring assigned activities are completed accurately, consistently, and on schedule.\nPrepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, consolidations, and financial statement workpapers.\nPrepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, variance analyses, dashboards, and ad hoc reporting.\n Manage financial audit and tax planning and compliance for a multi-state organization\n Research and evaluate technical accounting matters and complex or nonroutine transactions under U.S. GAAP, prepare clear, well-supported documentation.\nInternal Controls, Audit, and Compliance\nMaintain and enforce accounting policies, procedures, reconciliations, and internal controls designed to safeguard assets and support complete, accurate, and timely financial reporting.\n Assist the Controller in evaluating control design and operating effectiveness, documenting processes and risks, and implementing corrective actions or control improvements.\nTeam Leadership and Cross-Functional Partnership\n Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, training, and technical support to accounting team members for delegated responsibilities.\n Review staff work, communicate expectations, monitor deadlines, and provide timely feedback to promote accuracy, accountability, professional growth, and operational excellence.\n Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, accountability, and service.\nProcesses, Systems, Automation, and Growth\nIdentify, organize, and implement accounting process, system, and workflow improvements that increase efficiency, strengthen controls, enhance scalability, and improve reporting quality.\nEvaluate and responsibly implement automation and AI-enabled solutions that improve productivity and analysis while maintaining appropriate review, data security, access controls, documentation, accuracy, and audit trails.\nCore Competencies\n Technical accounting expertise and sound judgment\nFinancial reporting, compliance, and internal controls\nProcess improvement, automation, and technology adoption \nLeadership, coaching, and team development\nCross-functional partnership and communication \nAnalytical problem-solving and attention to detail \nAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment \nIntegrity, accountability, and professional discretion\nRequirements\nSkills and Qualifications\n Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; an Accounting degree is preferred.\n CPA license or active progress toward CPA licensure is preferred but not required.\n Public accounting experience is strongly preferred.\n Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including monthly close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, technical accounting, and internal controls.\n Two or more years of experience supervising accounting staff, reviewing the work of others, or leading accounting projects and processes.\n Demonstrated ability to perform technical U.S. GAAP research and prepare accounting memoranda or other formal documentation supporting accounting conclusions.\n Experience in healthcare or another regulated and transaction-intensive industry is preferred.\n Demonstrated success implementing process improvements, workflow enhancements, system changes, or operational efficiencies.\n Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel. \n Experience with ERP accounting software such as Sage Intacct or NetSuite; experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools is preferred.\n Experience with automation, systems implementation, AI tools, or technology-driven process optimization is preferred.\nBenefits\nCompensation and Benefits:\n75% employer covered Health, Dental & Vision benefits plan\n401(k) savings plan with employer matching upon eligibility\n8 paid holidays\n15 PTO days accrued annually in first year\nProfessional and career development opportunities\nCompensation evaluated with opportunities for advancement\n\nWe are an equal opportunity employer with a progressive workplace based on teamwork, integrity, and customer service.
