We believe the hardest problems in AI are solved when researchers and engineers are hands-on with the physical world every day - and we're looking for people who are passionate about robotics, value ownership, and are excited to tackle difficult problems. Join us if you want to move beyond digital intelligence and put intelligence into motion.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead the end-to-end design and development of complex electromechanical hardware and robotic systems. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will rapidly build, test, and iterate on prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, and hands-on fabrication. You’ll leverage your deep mechanical intuition to perform core structural, thermal, and tolerance analyses while ensuring designs scale seamlessly through rigorous DFM/DFA practices. Collaborating closely with cross-functional software and electrical teams, machine shops, and contract manufacturers, you will turn ambiguous technical challenges into reliable, high-volume production hardware.\nResponsibilities\nDesign and development of mechanical components and assemblies for data collection hardware and robotic devices.\n\nRapidly build, test, and break prototypes. You’ll use 3D printing, CNC machining, and manual fabrication to validate designs.\n\nContribute to DFM/DFA efforts to ensure designs can scale from low-volume prototypes to high-volume production.\n\nSource components and work closely with machine shops and CMs to ensure parts are manufactured and shipped to spec and on time.\n\nPerform basic analyses (tolerance, structural, thermal) to validate design decisions\n\nDevelop specifications and accelerated test plans to validate the product for its lifetime\n\nAssist in documentation for design reviews and testing.\n\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, software, industrial design) to consolidate design requirements and integrate mechanical systems.\n\nQualifications\nExceptional Mechanical Intuition. You understand how forces, materials, and mechanisms behave instinctively.\n\n5+ years of experience (or equivalent \"hard tech\" projects) building complex electromechanical systems and sensors\n\nFamiliarity with rapid prototyping techniques such as 3D Printing, Machining, etc.\n\nHigh proficiency in SolidWorks, Catia or similar tools\n\nHands-on problem-solving approach with ability to iterate quickly\n\nExperience designing for volume processes (Injection molding, CNC, etc.) and working with contract manufacturers.\n\nYou are comfortable with ambiguity, move fast, and have an \"engineering curiosity\" that drives you to understand how the entire system works, not just your part.","description_format":"text","description_chars":2783,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-10T23:17:49Z"}],"liveness":{"score":8,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.3,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":178,"expected_fill_days":53,"reasons":["conf:12","velocity","ghost","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-10-02T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/mindrobotics-mechanical-design-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/mindrobotics-mechanical-design-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-03T01:00:56Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":808,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":4192,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-04T00:00:00Z"}}}
