Working with our communications lead and technical teams, you'll plan, shoot and edit content that brings our missions, technology and people to life for the public, industry partners and the next generation of space explorers.\nWe're a group of scientists, engineers and space junkies who are passionate about humanity's next steps in exploration, and we want to inspire the next generation and the public as we undertake our missions. If you love making content (still and video) and want your work to reach a global audience, this role is for you.\nTasks and Responsibilities\nVideo production\nPlan, script and storyboard short videos about our missions, technology milestones and team.\nFilm on site, at field trials and at conferences and events, including interviews with engineers and scientists.\nEdit footage into finished pieces, adding motion graphics, captions, music and sound design.\nProduce vertical short-form video for YouTube and social media\nProduce longer-form pieces such as mission explainers, behind-the-scenes features and event recaps\nCapture photography alongside video for social media, press and the website.\nSocial media content\nCreate and publish regular posts for YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (X), including photos, graphics, carousels and Stories.\nHelp build and run a monthly content calendar across all four channels and the website.\nWrite captions, video titles, descriptions and short copy that make technical topics clear and engaging.\nAdapt each piece to its platform: long-form video and Shorts on YouTube, Reels, carousels and Stories on Instagram, community updates on Facebook, and timely posts and threads on Twitter (X).\nPost live from launches, field trials, conferences and events.\nRespond to comments and messages and help grow our community on each channel.\nTrack reach, views, watch time and engagement, and suggest changes based on what performs.\nSupport content for PR campaigns around specific missions, events and outreach activities.\nAssets and coordination\nOrganize and maintain our library of footage, photos and finished videos so they are easy to find and reuse.\nBrief and coordinate with third-party video contractors when we bring in outside support.\nMake sure all content follows brand guidelines and any confidentiality or export-control requirements from partners.\nJoin regular comms meetings and share progress on content in production.\nSkills and Experience\nRequired\nA portfolio or reel showing video you have shot and edited (school, personal or freelance projects all count).\nHands-on experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro\nComfort operating cameras, audio equipment and lighting, including smartphones\nA strong sense of storytelling, pacing and what makes people stop scrolling.\nExperience creating content for YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (X), and familiarity with each platform's trends and formats.\nClear written and verbal communication skills.\nOrganized, self-motivated and able to manage several projects at once.\nAssets\nMotion graphics or animation experience (for example, After Effects).\nGraphic design skills (for example, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva).\nPhotography experience.\nInterest in science communication, especially space science, robotics and AI.\nExperience with WordPress or other website content tools.\nExperience with digital asset management.\nWillingness to travel, sometimes to remote field locations.\nWhat You'll Gain\nA portfolio of published work reaching audiences across the space industry and the public.\nBehind-the-scenes access to real space robotics and AI projects, including work for the Canadian Space Agency.\nHands-on experience across the full production process, from idea to published video.\nMentorship from our communications lead and the chance to learn directly from engineers and scientists.\nRoom to pitch your own ideas and shape how Mission Control shows up online.\nSpecial Comments\nSecurity: Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a security clearance in Canada at the reliability status level (and potentially at the higher levels), and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).\nDue to the security clearance required for Mission Control's facility, only Canadian Citizen's and Permanent Residents are eligible at this time.\nSalary: The salary range for this position is $26-$34/ hour. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.\nLocation\nThis position is based in Ottawa, Ontario with hybrid work flexibility.
