Together we’re building hope and possibility for all.\nFind out more about us and our purpose.\nYour opportunity\nSometimes the greatest support we can offer is simply to be present, to listen, connect and walk alongside someone when they need it most.\nMission Australia is seeking a compassionate Chaplain to provide pastoral care to staff and people accessing our Brisbane homelessness programs, including Roma House and our Boundary Street service in Spring Hill.\nWorking 7 hours per week on one flexible weekday, you will be a trusted and approachable presence across both locations, offering pastoral, spiritual and personal support while helping bring Mission Australia’s Christian founding purpose and values to life.\nYour key responsibilities will be to:\nProvide approachable and confidential pastoral care to staff and participants across Roma House and Boundary Street.\nBe available on-site, building trusted relationships through presence, listening and meaningful connection.\nProvide spiritual and personal support to individuals or groups with sensitivity and respect.\nSupport staff wellbeing through pastoral conversations, reflective practice and an empowering approach.\nRecognise when needs sit outside the scope of chaplaincy and connect people with appropriate additional supports.\nWork alongside Program Managers and Group Activities Facilitator to develop relevant reflections, activities and pastoral care opportunities.\nHelp staff understand and live Mission Australia’s Christian founding purpose and organisational values.\nBuild positive relationships with local churches, Christian communities and other pastoral care providers.\nMaintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality in all interactions.\nRequirements for success\nRelevant theological qualifications, Clinical Pastoral Education, Certificate IV in Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy, or equivalent recognised qualifications. \nExperience providing culturally appropriate pastoral care with sensitivity and respect.\nAbility to work effectively across Christian denominations while maintaining alignment with Mission Australia’s Christian founding purpose.\nExcellent listening, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.\nA professional approach to confidentiality and appropriate pastoral boundaries.\nAbility to engage sensitively with people experiencing complex life circumstances.\nOngoing commitment to personal spiritual growth in the Christian faith and active participation in a local church community.\nCurrent driver’s licence and willingness to work across the two Brisbane locations.\nBefore starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.\nYour benefits\nTo ensure our employees feel valued, empowered, and celebrated, we provide a range of employee benefits including:\nRewarding work - every day you know you’re making a real difference\nNot-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax (details via AccessPay)\nFree external, confidential counselling and access to chaplaincy support\nVolunteering opportunities \nOpportunity to purchase additional annual leave \nExtra leave including: Mission Australia Thank You Day & Work Anniversary Day off\nOur culture\nOur innovative and inclusive culture will ensure you feel valued at Mission Australia as you help Australians in need and develop in your career.\nWe prioritise the safety and wellbeing of everyone, both within our team and the individuals we serve.\nWe are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive working environment.
