This role is aligned to the Digital Engineering & Systems Transformation department. MITRE is seeking an early-career Software Engineer to design, develop, and deliver full-stack applications and data-driven capabilities that support sponsor missions. The successful candidate will work across the software development lifecycle - building web applications, integrating cloud services and data pipelines, and applying modern AI/ML tools - alongside a collaborative, multi-disciplined team.\nRoles & Responsibilities:\nDeveloping and maintaining full-stack web applications using modern frameworks such as React, Angular, Node.js, Spring Boot, and Flask.\nBuilding and integrating RESTful APIs, microservices, and data services across cloud and on-premise environments.\nWriting clean, well-tested code in Python, Java, and JavaScript/TypeScript across the software development lifecycle.\nContainerizing and deploying applications using Docker and supporting CI/CD workflows on cloud platforms such as AWS.\nDesigning and working with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB) to support application and data needs.\nApplying modern AI/ML tools, large language models, and AI-assisted coding workflows to accelerate development and improve software quality.\nCollaborating with engineers, designers, and stakeholders in an Agile environment to deliver sponsor-focused solutions.\nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or Applied Mathematics)\n0-2 years of relevant experience in hands-on software development, including internships, co-ops, or full-time roles\nPractical understanding of the software development lifecycle, with experience using modern programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript/TypeScript\nExperience developing full-stack or web applications using modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Node.js, Spring Boot, or Flask)\nFoundational understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker)\nExperience working with databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB) and version control with Git\nStrong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills, with demonstrated ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly\nThis position requires a minimum of 3 days a week on-site.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience building or deploying data pipelines or data-processing workflows (e.g., geospatial, NLP, or large-scale datasets)\nFamiliarity with large language models (LLMs) and AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, OpenAI, or Hugging Face)\nExperience evaluating, testing, or improving software through structured QA, automated test suites, or model-output evaluation\nExposure to graph databases (e.g., Neo4j) or building data-intensive and analytics applications\nExperience with cloud-native development and AWS services, including building scalable, distributed systems\nInternship, co-op, or project experience in a federal, research, or other mission-driven environment\nExperience applying Agile or Scrum methodologies and collaborative software development practices\nActive or current DoD or federal government security clearance\nThis requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):\nNoneThis requisition requires the hired candidate to have or obtain, within one year from the date of hire, the following clearance(s):\nNoneSalary compensation range and midpoint:\n$86,000 - $107,500 - $129,000 AnnualWork Location Type:\nOnsiteIt is unlawful in Massachusetts to require or administer a lie detector test as a condition of employment or continued employment.
