About the role:

MUFG, a globally respected financial institution, is seeking an Analyst / Associate, Trade Client Service to join its Transaction Banking team in Sydney. What you'll do:

In your role, you will immerse yourself in the dynamic world of international trade finance. Your day-to-day activities will revolve around building trusted relationships with clients by providing timely responses to their queries and expertly managing every stage of their trade transactions.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for trade finance clients, expertly managing enquiries, transaction execution, and issue resolution to ensure an exceptional client experience.
  • Oversee the complete lifecycle of trade transactions-including issuance, advising, amendments, settlements, and post-issuance follow-up-across LCs, SBLCs, and Bank Guarantees.
  • Ensure all transactions are processed accurately and promptly in accordance with client requirements and internal standards to maintain operational excellence.
  • Proactively identify potential operational or transactional issues before they impact clients and collaborate with relevant teams to resolve them efficiently.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on documentary trade products such as import/export LCs, Bank Guarantees, SBLC structures, trade loans, and associated instruments.
  • Provide technical guidance to both clients and internal stakeholders on structuring transactions and mitigating risks while maintaining deep knowledge of ICC rules (UCP, ISP, URDG) and market practices.
  • Assist with credit request narrations related to trade transactions and support credit queries as well as structuring discussions for complex deals.
  • Work closely with regional and global teams to ensure smooth handling of cross-border transactions while navigating jurisdictional regulations across multiple markets.
  • Support client onboarding processes, service reviews, due diligence updates, product deepening initiatives, and contribute to identifying cross-sell opportunities based on client needs.
  • Maintain rigorous oversight of operational risk by ensuring strict adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements across jurisdictions, transaction controls within approved frameworks, and supporting a zero-breach compliance environment.

What you bring:

To thrive in this role, you will bring proven experience from previous roles in transaction banking or financial services where you have developed strong technical acumen in handling complex trade finance products. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to build rapport quickly with clients from diverse backgrounds while collaborating seamlessly with colleagues across multiple functions.

  • Undergraduate degree I Business / Commerce / Economics required
  • Comprehensive technical understanding of Letters of Credit (LCs), Standby Letters of Credit (SBLCs), Bank Guarantees, including their issuance and settlement processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of ICC rules such as UCP 600, ISP98, URDG 758 as well as current market practices governing international trade finance transactions.
  • Experience identifying business development or revenue expansion opportunities through attentive client service delivery is highly desirable.
  • Exposure to credit processes related to trade loan products or structured trade solutions would be advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with regional regulatory environments across APAC/Australia is considered beneficial for candidates aspiring to excel in this role.
  • Proven track record managing cross-border transactions involving international clients while navigating multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments effectively.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate across departments such as Relationship Management, Product Development, Operations, Credit Risk Management and Compliance.
  • Exceptional communication skills enabling you to influence outcomes positively while fostering co-operative relationships internally and externally.
