Overview

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving sustainable revenue growth and expanding MUFG Corporate Markets' presence across Hong Kong and Greater China. Reporting to the Head of Sales Asia, this role will identify and convert new business opportunities, strengthen strategic client relationships, and contribute to market share growth across MUFG Corporate Markets' service offerings.

Working closely with Business Development, Client Relationship Management, Operations and Product teams, the incumbent will deliver a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities, support client retention and expansion strategies, and ensure a seamless client experience from prospect engagement through to onboarding and ongoing partnership.

The role plays a critical part in achieving the organisation's strategic growth objectives by enhancing market visibility, identifying emerging market opportunities, and positioning MUFG Corporate Markets as a trusted partner to listed issuers, investor relations professionals, company secretaries and senior executives throughout the region.

Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities

Strategic Focus

  • Drive new business growth and market expansion across Hong Kong and Greater China by developing and executing targeted business development strategies aligned with MUFG Corporate Markets' commercial objectives.
  • Build, manage and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities to support sustainable revenue growth and achievement of sales targets.
  • Identify emerging market trends, regulatory developments, competitive activities and client needs to uncover new business opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with listed issuers, investor relations professionals, company secretaries, C-suite executives and other key decision-makers.
  • Identify and pursue cross-selling opportunities across the wider MUFG Corporate Markets product and service portfolio.
  • Enhance MUFG Corporate Markets' brand presence by actively participating in industry forums, conferences and networking events.
  • Contribute to market share growth by positioning MUFG Corporate Markets as a trusted partner and differentiated provider within the market.

Operational Management

  • Manage the full business development lifecycle from lead generation and qualification through proposal preparation, negotiation, contract execution and handover to operational teams.
  • Ensure all client opportunities are progressed efficiently and professionally, delivering a positive client experience throughout the sales journey.
  • Prepare high-quality business proposals, tenders, presentations, commercial agreements and client communications.
  • Maintain accurate and timely sales activity, pipeline reporting and forecasting through Salesforce and other sales management tools.
  • Collaborate with Client Relationship Management, Operations, Legal, Billing and other internal stakeholders to support successful onboarding and delivery outcomes.
  • Produce regular pipeline, market intelligence and business development reports to support management decision-making.
  • Support strategic sales, marketing and business development initiatives as required by management.

People Leadership

  • Foster strong collaborative relationships across Business Development, Client Relationship Management, Operations, Billing and Corporate Markets teams to ensure delivery of business objectives.
  • Act as a trusted partner and brand ambassador, representing MUFG Corporate Markets with professionalism and integrity.
  • Share market insights, client intelligence and industry knowledge with colleagues to support broader business development efforts.
  • Support a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement across the Asia sales function.
  • Contribute to team initiatives and strategic projects led by the Head of Sales Asia.
  • Mentor and support colleagues where appropriate by sharing expertise, best practices and business development knowledge.

Governance & Risk

  • Conduct all business development activities in accordance with MUFG Corporate Markets policies, regulatory obligations and governance requirements.
  • Ensure client information, contracts and business development documentation are maintained accurately, securely and in accordance with data privacy requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of integrity and professionalism when representing the organisation and engaging with clients and external stakeholders.
  • Identify, assess and appropriately escalate commercial, operational, legal or reputational risks.
  • Support audit, compliance and regulatory requirements through accurate record keeping and adherence to approved processes.
  • Promote a strong risk culture and contribute to maintaining an effective control environment.

Experience & Personal Attributes

  • Proven track record of achieving business development and revenue growth targets within financial services, capital markets, investor relations, corporate services or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full sales lifecycle from opportunity identification through to close.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to develop client-centric solutions and articulate business value.
  • Excellent relationship management, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical and market research capabilities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience within Investor Relations, Share Registry, Corporate Governance or Capital Markets environments.
  • Existing network across listed issuers and corporate stakeholder communities within Hong Kong and Greater China.
  • Experience using Salesforce or equivalent CRM platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics or a related discipline.
  • Fluency in both English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and written Simplified Chinese.
