A member of our recruitment team will provide more details.Job Summary:\nThe SQL Server Database Senior Developer is responsible for the performance, optimization, and ongoing support of enterprise database systems within the Global Corporate and Investment Banking Technology (GCIB) organization. This role requires deep expertise in SQL Server, database performance tuning, code review and query optimization, along with strong collaboration with application teams and business partners.\nThis is a hands-on technical role focused on ensuring high-performing, scalable, and reliable SQL database as backend of Applications supporting the GCIB Division of MUFG bank. The successful candidate will have strong experience with SQL Server, execution plan analysis and large-scale data environments, and will help drive performance improvements across critical platforms.\nKey Responsibilities:\nLead the performance tuning and optimization of SQL Server databases\nServe as a senior technical contributor, resolving code bottlenecks, slow queries, blocking, and deadlocks\nOptimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and batch processing jobs\nAnalyze and tune execution plans to improve database efficiency and scalability\nDesign and implement indexing strategies (clustered, non-clustered, partitioning)\nMonitor database performance using SQL Server tools such as SQL Profiler\nIdentify and resolve I/O, memory, and CPU bottlenecks in production environments\nCollaborate with application development teams to ensure efficient database access patterns\nWork closely with business partners to gather, analyze, and document data and performance requirements\nAct as a liaison between database, application teams, and infrastructure groups\nCoordinate testing and implementation of database changes in accordance with bank policies and standards\nOrganize and manage technical workstreams, communicating status, risks, and dependencies using tools such as JIRA and Confluence\nCollaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, and Quality Engineering teams\nProvide guidance and oversight to junior developers or database team members\nParticipate in production support, including availability for critical issue resolution\nRequired Qualifications:\n7+ years of hands-on experience with SQL Server database development and performance tuning\nDeep expertise in:Query optimization\nExecution plan analysis\nIndex design and tuning\nStored procedure optimization\n\nStrong experience troubleshooting database performance issues in production environments\nStrong knowledge of SQL Server internals, including:Locking and blocking\nDeadlocks\nTempDB usage\nIndexing strategies\n\nExperience working with large datasets and high-throughput batch processing systems\nFamiliarity with at least one programming language (e.g., C#, .NET, Java, Python) for integration purposes\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills\nHighly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable\nPreferred Skills & Experience:\nBackground supporting Loan systems, Corporate Investment Banking and Capital Markets platforms\nExperience working in Agile development environments\nUnderstanding of enterprise architecture, production support, and financial services security controls\nPrior experience mentoring or guiding junior team members\nEducation:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience\nThe typical base pay range for this role is between $147k - $205k depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonuses and/or incentive compensation.
