This individual will serve as a senior escalation point for database operations while driving platform modernization, operational excellence, cloud adoption, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nThe successful candidate will have a strong ownership mindset, exceptional troubleshooting skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across application, infrastructure, security, and cloud engineering teams.\nKey Responsibilities\nDatabase Administration & Operations\nAdminister and support Microsoft SQL Server environments from SQL Server 2016 through SQL Server 2025, and Azure-resident database platforms.\nProvide L3 operational support and serve as a senior escalation resource for complex database incidents and service requests.\nEnsure database platform availability, reliability, performance, and recoverability for business-critical systems.\nManage database lifecycle activities including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning.\nParticipate in a 24x7 on-call rotation supporting production database environments.\nHigh Availability, Disaster Recovery & Resiliency\nDesign, implement, and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions.\nAdminister technologies including:SQL Server Availability Groups\nLog Shipping\nTransactional Replication\nFailover Cluster Instances\nAzure-based DR architectures\n\nValidate and regularly test recovery procedures to ensure compliance with business RTO and RPO objectives.\nManage enterprise backup, recovery, and retention strategies.\nAzure Database Platform\nArchitect, deploy, and support database solutions across:Azure SQL Database\nAzure SQL Managed Instance\nSQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines\nAzure Storage and backup services\n\nAssess existing workloads and develop migration strategies for cloud adoption and modernization.\nImplement and optimize Azure-native capabilities, including monitoring, security, Azure Elastic Jobs, Azure Automation Runbooks, and Cloud Shell automation.\nPartner with cloud engineering teams to ensure database platforms align with enterprise Azure standards and landing zone requirements.\nPlan, architect, and execute seamless database migrations from on-premises environments to Azure Cloud, as well as reverse migrations from Azure Cloud to on-premises environments.\nPerform performance and cost engineering to optimize cloud resource utilization across Azure SQL tiers.\nPerformance Engineering & Optimization\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex database and application performance issues.\nPartner with development teams to optimize schema design, indexing strategies, stored procedures, ETL processes, and application queries.\nEstablish proactive performance monitoring and capacity planning practices.\nAutomation & Platform Engineering\nAutomate operational processes using:PowerShell\ndbatools.io\nAzure Automation\nGit-based source control workflows\n\nDevelop repeatable solutions that reduce manual effort and improve operational consistency.\nSupport Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management initiatives where applicable.\nDrive continuous improvement through scripting, self-service capabilities, and operational automation.\nMonitoring, Observability & Capacity Management\nProactively monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance using enterprise monitoring platforms.\nSupport and optimize tools such as:OpsRamp\nSQL Sentry\nAzure Monitor\nLog Analytics\n\nIdentify trends and risks before they impact service delivery.\nLead storage growth forecasting and capacity planning efforts.\nSecurity, Compliance & Governance\nImplement database security best practices and regulatory controls.\nPartner with Information Security teams to address vulnerabilities, hardening standards, and remediation activities.\nSupport audit requests and regulatory examinations as required.\nCollaboration & Leadership\nAct as a trusted technical advisor to application, infrastructure, cloud, and security teams.\nMentor junior DBAs and contribute to team knowledge sharing and technical development.\nParticipate in architecture reviews and provide database design guidance for new initiatives.\nDevelop and maintain operational runbooks, standards, procedures, and architecture documentation.\nRequired Qualifications\n8+ years of SQL Server administration experience in large-scale enterprise environments.\nDeep expertise administering SQL Server 2016 through SQL Server 2025.\nHands-on experience with:Azure SQL Database\nAzure SQL Managed Instance\nSQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines\n\nAdvanced troubleshooting skills across the database, operating system, storage, and network layers.\nStrong PowerShell scripting and automation experience.\nExperience with database monitoring and observability platforms.\nStrong understanding of cloud architecture, networking, and security principles.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with dbatools and large-scale SQL Server fleet administration.\nFamiliarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts and tools.\nExperience supporting hybrid cloud environments.\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines and database DevOps practices.\nExposure to Delphix, Redgate, or similar database lifecycle management platforms.\nKnowledge of Azure governance, landing zones, and enterprise cloud operating models.\nFinancial services or highly regulated industry experience.\nExperience with PostgreSQL is a plus.Implement PostgreSQL HA and DR strategies using WAL archiving, physical and logical streaming replication, and cross-region replication.\nExpertise in PostgreSQL authentication, row-level security, role-based access control, pgAudit, logging, and automated compliance enforcement.\nGood understanding of PostgreSQL Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
