You will lead the development of large-scale data systems that process billions of events daily, enabling both real-time and batch use cases across product, growth, analytics, AI and data monetization. You’ll work closely with engineering, data science, analytics teams, and business leaders to ensure our data is reliable, secure, scalable, and actionable.\nThis is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in production environments, takes accountability seriously, and wants to shape how data works across a fast-growing, multi-product company.\nWhat You’ll Do\nBuild & Scale (Action-Driven, Thorough)\nArchitect and lead the development of large-scale data pipelines, streaming systems, and data lakes handling billions of daily events.\nDesign and implement robust solutions supporting both real-time and batch processing.\nMake thoughtful architectural decisions around performance, cost, scalability, and long-term maintainability.\nEnsure high data quality through strong ETL/ELT patterns, testing, monitoring, and observability.\nOwn Production (Accountable)\nOwn data systems running in live production environments with a strong focus on uptime, reliability, and correctness.\nProactively identify risks, bottlenecks, and failure modes-and address them before they impact the business.\nPartner with infrastructure and engineering teams to ensure data platforms are secure, compliant, and resilient.\nCollaborate & Enable (Caring)\nWork closely with product engineers, analytics engineers, data scientists, growth, and business teams to understand data needs and deliver high-impact solutions.\nBuild tools, frameworks, and datasets that empower others to move faster and make better decisions.\nMentor and support other engineers, raising the bar for technical excellence and ownership across teams.\nThink Ahead (Curious)\nContinuously explore new tools, patterns, and technologies that improve our data platform.\nEvaluate build vs. buy decisions with a pragmatic mindset, balancing speed, scalability, and long-term value.\nHelp shape the technical roadmap for Mode Mobile’s data platform as we grow through both organic expansion and acquisitions.\nWhat We’re Looking For\nExperience & Technical Skills\n5+ years of experience designing, operating, and owning live production data systems, ideally in high-scale or data-intensive environments.\nExpert-level SQL skills.\nHands-on experience with technologies such as Spark, Kafka, and modern data processing frameworks.\nExperience with AWS services for running data infrastructure.\nExperience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.\nProficiency in at least one data engineering language: Python (preferred), Scala, or Java.\nStrong understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT design patterns, and scalable data architectures.\nHow You Work (Values Alignment)\nAccountable: You take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks.
