Our team builds the ledger that answers that question: a real-time, accurate view of Wise's FX position and liquidity.\nThis is high-volume, event-driven infrastructure where correctness matters. Your work directly supports how Treasury manages Wise's money, and the evolution of the ledger as the business grows.\nWhat will you be working on?\nBuild new specialised ledgers that track Wise's FX risk and liquidity in real time, using modern stream-processing technology.\n\nDesign real-time reconciliation and data-quality controls that catch discrepancies as they happen, not days later.\n\nBring new Wise products into the ledger as they launch around the world, giving Treasury a complete picture of money moving across products and currencies.\n\nScale the real-time event processing at the heart of Treasury, keeping it fast, resilient and observable as Wise grows.\n\nTechnical responsibilities\nOwn features end-to-end, from the product events Wise's systems produce to the real-time ledger streams Treasury relies on, working alongside experienced engineers.\n\nHelp shape the architecture of new ledgers through design discussions and code reviews.\n\nSolve hard distributed-systems problems at scale: exactly-once processing, event ordering, replay and real-time aggregation.\n\nBuild with a modern stack: Java 25, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, MariaDB and ClickHouse.\n\nUse AI tooling across the development lifecycle to move faster without compromising quality.\n\nWhat do you need?\nWe are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. So if you have some of those listed below and are eager to learn more we do want to hear from you!\nTechnical excellence\nSolid software engineering fundamentals and experience building backend software professionally.\n\nExperience with Java or a similar object-oriented programming language.\n\nGood understanding of databases and SQL.\n\nCare for data correctness and attention to edge cases.\n\nWriting well-tested, maintainable code.\n\nWillingness to learn new technologies and domains.\n\nOwnership and product mindset\nOwnership of your work from design through production.\n\nUnderstanding why something is being built and what problem it solves.\n\nCuriosity about how FX, liquidity and accounting work.\n\nWillingness to take part in incident resolution and post-incident learning.\n\nParticipation in on-call support for your area when needed.\n\nInfluence and collaboration\nCommunicate clearly with engineers, analysts and business stakeholders.\n\nAsk questions, share knowledge, and give and receive feedback openly.\n\nContribute to engineering communities or guilds across Wise.\n\nNice to have\nExperience with Kafka, Flink or other stream-processing technologies.\n\nExperience with analytical databases such as ClickHouse.\n\nExperience with event-driven or data-intensive systems.\n\nInterest or experience in payments, banking, accounting or another financial domain.\n\nAdditional Information\nWe are currently only considering local candidates as relocation support is not provided.
