This role offers the opportunity to shape how Moderna turns high-volume security data into reliable, model-ready products that support risk modeling, owner action, and executive visibility.\nAs AI-driven discovery increases vulnerability volume and ownership sprawl, this role will help adapt detection, triage, and data products so teams can identify accountable owners, prioritize the right work, and lay the groundwork for future shift-left scanning and unified remediation workflows across code, artifacts, and platforms.\nWe are seeking a Senior Security Data Engineer, Vulnerability Risk Management to own and scale the data products across the full lifecycle: raw source ingestion, normalized evidence, risk model outputs, and operational reporting.\nThis is a high-impact, hands-on role for a self-starter who treats security data as a product, balancing engineering rigor, pragmatic normalization, data quality, and business value.\nHere’s What You’ll Do\nData Pipeline Engineering\nDesign, build, and operate reliable ingestion pipelines for asset, vulnerability, finding, remediation, threat intelligence, and business-context data sources.\n\nBuild reusable ingestion patterns that can absorb new sources without brittle, one-off logic.\n\nSupport batch and incremental processing patterns from raw source capture through normalized, model-ready data products.\n\nPartner with source-system owners to clarify schema changes, source freshness, field semantics, and operational constraints.\n\nSecurity Data Modeling & Enrichment\nOwn transformations from raw evidence into normalized security entities such as assets, vulnerabilities, findings, owners, exposure context, risk-reduction actions, and validation states.\n\nEngineer model-ready features that encode asset ownership, exposure, business importance, exploitability, remediation state, and organizational context.\n\nSupport risk model outputs and operational reporting datasets used by remediation owners and leadership.\n\nModel ownership and accountability signals across code, artifacts, platforms, infrastructure, and application contexts to reduce ambiguity in remediation routing.\n\nMake pragmatic normalization decisions for messy, heterogeneous data while documenting assumptions, confidence, and tradeoffs.\n\nDetection, Triage & Shift-Left Readiness\nAdapt vulnerability detection and triage data flows to support increasing AI-driven finding volume without losing ownership, severity, or remediation context.\n\nBuild data foundations for scanning workflows across code repositories, build artifacts, deployed platforms, and runtime environments.\n\nConnect vulnerability signals to remediation workflow needs, including owner routing, action state, validation evidence, exception paths, and closure reporting.\n\nPartner with security, engineering, and platform teams to unify how findings are represented from discovery through remediation.\n\nData Quality, Lineage & Reliability\nImplement data quality checks for schema validity, completeness, freshness, duplication, drift, and unexpected distribution changes.\n\nMaintain lineage documentation so risk scores, reports, and owner views can be traced back to source inputs.\n\nBuild monitoring, alerting, and runbooks for data pipeline reliability and source degradation.\n\nPartner with downstream users to resolve data defects and improve trust in pipeline outputs.\n\nAnalytics Enablement & Continuous Improvement\nPrepare reliable, pre-aggregated data products for dashboards, operational views, risk reporting, and experimentation.\n\nCollaborate with partners to translate new questions into durable data features.\n\nImprove data contracts, documentation, and self-service access patterns for technical and non-technical stakeholders.\n\nContinuously refine feature hypotheses and data products as the vulnerability risk model and remediation operating model mature.\n\nHere’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)\n5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, security data engineering, or related technical disciplines.\n\nStrong hands-on proficiency with Python and SQL in production data pipeline environments.\n\nExperience designing, building, and operating ETL/ELT pipelines across heterogeneous source systems.\n\nExperience with data modeling, schema evolution, incremental processing, and data quality controls.\n\nAbility to work with messy, incomplete, or inconsistent datasets and make pragmatic normalization decisions.\n\nExperience supporting data products from source ingestion through reporting, analytics, model inputs, or decision-support outputs.\n\nExperience designing data models that support ownership routing, triage, workflow state, or operational decision-making.\n\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.\n\nHere’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)\nExperience with medallion, lakehouse, or data-product architecture patterns.\n\nExperience engineering features for probabilistic, predictive, prioritization, or risk models.\n\nExperience in regulated environments such as biotech, pharmaceutical, healthcare, GxP, SOX, or similar control environments.\n\nExposure to cybersecurity, vulnerability management, threat intelligence, security operations, or security data platforms.\n\nExposure to application security, software supply chain security, shift-left scanning, artifact security, platform security, or unified remediation workflows.\n\nExperience building lineage, observability, monitoring, and operational runbooks for critical data pipelines.\n\nFamiliarity with orchestration, data catalog, data contract, business intelligence, or operational reporting patterns.\n\nExposure to AI/Agentic/LLM-assisted coding tools\n\nPay & Benefits\nAt Moderna, we believe that when you feel your best, you can do your best work. That’s why our benefits and well-being resources are designed to support you-at work, at home, and everywhere in between.\nCompetitive healthcare, plus voluntary benefit programs to support your unique needs\nA holistic approach to well-being, with access to fitness, mindfulness, and mental health support\nFamily planning benefits, including fertility, adoption, and surrogacy support\nGenerous paid time off, including vacation, volunteer days, sabbatical, global recharge days, and a discretionary year-end shutdown\nSavings and investments to help you plan for the future\nLocation-specific perks and extras\nThe salary range for this role is $130,800.00 - $209,400.00(for positions that may be performed in California, the expected salary range is $158,193.00 - $182,007.00, which reflects the range permitted under California Labor Code requirements) .
