From checking an arrival time to tapping to board, passengers interact with Modeshift-powered systems throughout the journey.\n\nWe’re hiring a Senior Android Developer to own features end-to-end across the Android apps and tools that run public transport in the field.\n\nWhat you’d work on\n\nYou’ll work on the Modeshift Android applications used by operators and inspectors, and on the software behind POS terminals and ticketing/vending workflows – software that has to stay correct offline, talk to hardware, and survive real operating conditions. Recent and upcoming work includes:\n\nOperator and inspector apps for day-to-day fare validation and enforcement\n\nPOS-terminal and ticketing/vending workflows\n\nIntegration with the backend platform over REST APIs, including real-world failure handling\n\nDevice interaction and reliability across real field conditions\n\nYou’d own a feature from design through to release, including the parts nobody likes owning.\n\nOur stack\n\nKotlin/Java on Android, talking to a .NET / Azure backend over REST. Continuous delivery, every PR reviewed, automation wherever we can get away with it.\n\nWhat we look for\n\n7+ years building native Android apps with Kotlin and/or Java\n\nSolid understanding of Android architecture, lifecycle, networking, storage, and background work\n\nExperience integrating REST APIs and handling real-world API failures\n\nGit, code review, CI/CD, and release workflows\n\nTestable code and the ability to debug production issues\n\nA product mindset: edge cases, usability, and operational reliability\n\nAI coding tools are part of how you work. We use Claude and other frontier tools daily, and if that doesn’t excite you, you won’t like it here.\n\nWe value multidisciplinary engineers. If you’ve worked seriously in another ecosystem – backend and relational databases, the .NET stack, iOS, or embedded – that’s a huge plus here. The problems we solve cross stacks, and engineers who’ve crossed them before tend to do well.\n\nBonus: payment and POS-terminal software, remote device management, experience with Bluetooth/NFC/GPS, and embedded systems, or automated testing for Android.\n\nHow we work\n\nHybrid in Sofia, with flexibility week to week.
