We are looking for purpose-driven team members who enjoy problem solving, teamwork, and personal growth to join our venture-backed company.\nABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY\nMojave Energy Systems is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Fluid Systems to take a significant role in designing and engineering our liquid desiccant air conditioner. Reporting to the Mechanical Design Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for mechanical design and testing of sub-systems and components for a novel HVAC product. The successful candidate should be comfortable overcoming design challenges under deadlines, working across teams, and working independently. This is a rare opportunity to be a part of creating and launching cutting edge technology for a venture-backed climate-tech company at a critical inflection point: we've proven the technology works, we're ramping production, and we need an engineer who can balance innovation with practical manufacturability and field robustness.\nThis is an on-site role in the Anderson/Piedmont/Greenville area of SC or onsite in Sunnyvale, CA\n\nRESPONSIBILITIES\nOwn the liquid desiccant system and component projects from concept through manufacturing\nProduce production-quality solid models and engineering drawings, including plumbing and leak proof reservoirs, in a collaborative CAD environment (Onshape).\nSize and select fluid system components such as fittings, tubing, seals and valves, based on flow rate, pressure, head loss\nDesign plastic parts and housings for injection molding, thermoforming, or plastic welding.\nDevelop and maintain system-level documentation, including P&IDs, plumbing schematics and assembly BOMs.\nManage vendors to quote, build and evaluate prototype and production parts, including DFM reviews, tooling kickoffs and first-article inspection.\nDesign and execute subsystem tests to explore the design space and validate solutions, including flow and pressure characterization, leak testing, and system performance and cycle life.\nBasic fabrication, assembly, plumbing, machining, testing, debugging, and parts chasing.\nEvaluate and improve designs for DFM/DFA, with attention to leak-free joints, serviceability and assembly of fluid connections.\nParticipate in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, with a focus on fluid system failure modes such as leaks, clogging, cavitation, and seal degradation.\n\nQUALIFICATIONS\nBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or relevant field.\n3+ years' experience in mechanical design and design for manufacturing, with at least some of that time on fluid handling or water systems.\nSolid grasp of fluid mechanics: flow rate, pressure drop, system head loss and cavitation.\nExperience designing reliable seals and fluid connections, such as O-rings, gaskets, threaded fittings, push-to-connect fittings and welded plastic joints.\nStrong CAD skills (SolidWorks or Onshape preferred).\nStrong critical thinking skills: ability to dig deep into cause and effect and complex diagnostics.\nDemonstrated ability to communicate across a range of skill levels.\nDemonstrated history of hands-on experience in design/build/assembly of plumbing and fluid systems.\nKnowledgeable in common manufacturing processes, including sheet metal forming and machining.\nStructured problem-solving skills, using inputs such as functional documentation (P&IDs, mechanical drawings) and performance testing data.\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\nMaster’s degree or PhD in mechanical engineering or relevant field.\nFamiliarity with common plastic materials (PP, PE, ABS, PC, POM, EPDM, silicone).\nHands-on experience designing and prototyping plastic parts for injection molding, thermoforming, or plastic joining (ultrasonic, spin or hot-plate welding), ideally carried from prototype through production tooling.\nMojave is a mission-driven company focused on advancing air conditioning technology. The anticipated compensation range for this position depends on location and could range from $110,000 - $160,000 with an equity award (4-year vest) on hire. Equity represents a significant component of total compensation. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, skills, and work location, consistent with applicable law.
