You’ll be challenged, supported, and trusted to deliver.\n\nThe Role\n\nWe're looking for an Engineer to join our Financial Services team, the team responsible for every euro that flows through Monta's platform. This is a hands-on individual contributor role where you'll own delivery of meaningful pieces of our financial systems and grow your expertise in the domain, helping us scale reliably as we expand across Europe.\n\nFinancial Services is at an inflection point. Our transaction volume is growing fast and already processes millions of euros each month. We're building the next generation of our financial infrastructure, including new billing models and compliance capabilities to support expansion into new EU markets. The problems are hard, the stakes are real, and the work matters.\n\nWe need someone who takes ownership of what they build. You'll own medium-sized projects from design through to production, working independently within your team and delivering quality outcomes.\n\nYou should also be someone who has embraced AI as a core part of how you work. We use Claude Code extensively across the Financial Services team for everything from writing and reviewing code to designing systems and exploring financial domain problems. We expect you to be an advanced AI user who actively finds new ways to leverage these tools to move faster and think better.\n\n**This Is What You Will Achieve\n\n**\n\nHelp rebuild Monta's financial backbone. You'll contribute to the new invoicing system that every customer will use, owning meaningful slices of the new infrastructure.\n\nPower EU expansion. You'll build features within our compliance infrastructure (e-invoicing, fiscalization, VAT) that enables Monta to enter new European markets.\n\nStrengthen the money flow. You'll improve the reliability and scalability of payment processing, reconciliation, and withdrawal systems across a rapidly growing transaction volume.\n\n**What You’ll Do\n\n**\n\nDeliver core parts of the new invoice system. Build features within the new invoicing architecture that supports multiple billing models and financial flows, owning your slice end-to-end and contributing to design discussions.\n\nBuild and scale compliance infrastructure. E-invoicing across European markets. Fiscalization integrations. A VAT engine that handles the complexity of cross-border EV charging.\n\nImprove payment flows from card to payout. Card payments, automated reconciliation, withdrawal reliability, and working capital management.\n\nCollaborate across Finance, Legal, Revenue Operations, and Product to deliver new billing and commercial models. You won't work in a silo.\n\nBuild for systems that must be right. Every euro must be traceable from summary down to line item. You'll write code with auditability, correctness, and scale in mind, and contribute to design discussions for new components.\n\nGrow with the team. Contribute through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing, and help onboard new joiners as you grow into the domain.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\n\nSolid backend engineering experience. You've built and shipped production systems and you write clean, maintainable code. Java/Kotlin preferred, but strong engineers from other stacks are welcome.\n\nSome exposure to financial systems is a plus. Billing, invoicing, payment processing, or similar domains where correctness matters — but we'll help you grow the depth.\n\nA sense of ownership. You take responsibility for what you ship, follow it through to production, and flag issues early rather than waiting to be asked.\n\nComfortable asking questions and learning fast. Regulatory and financial domains have a lot of nuance — you bring curiosity and a willingness to dig in.\n\nCuriosity about financial infrastructure. Invoicing, VAT, compliance, payment flows. You don't need to be a domain expert on day one, but you're eager to go deep.\n\nAdvanced AI adoption. You already use AI tools daily in your engineering workflow and you're always looking for new ways to apply them. You don't just accept suggestions, you prompt deliberately, iterate on output, and integrate AI into how you design, build, and debug.\n\nStrong collaboration and communication skills. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, finance, legal, and product. You build alignment fast and communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders.\n\n**Bonus\n\n**\n\nExperience with EU financial regulations, e-invoicing standards, or fiscalization\n\nExperience with payment service providers or payment infrastructure\n\nFamiliarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka) or high-throughput data processing\n\n**If the mission excites you but your experience isn't a perfect 1:1 match, apply anyway.
