The successful candidate will oversee purchasing activities, vendor relationships, inventory management, and cost-control initiatives to ensure the continuous availability of food, supplies, and equipment necessary to support patient care and retail food service operations.\nThis role requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and a commitment to operational excellence within a complex healthcare environment.\nResponsibilities\nAssist in directing and managing all food service purchasing functions for the department.\nDevelop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure quality, service, and competitive pricing.\nMonitor inventory levels and implement effective inventory control practices to minimize waste and shortages.\nAnalyze purchasing trends, utilization data, and market conditions to identify cost-saving opportunities.\nEnsure compliance with organizational policies, contractual agreements, regulatory requirements, and food safety standards.\nCollaborate with Food & Nutrition leadership, Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to support departmental objectives.\nOversee product sourcing, substitutions, and standardization initiatives.\nParticipate in budget preparation and expenditure management.\nPrepare and present reports related to purchasing, inventory, and operational performance.\nSupport staff development, workflow improvement, and process optimization initiatives.\nAssist with emergency procurement needs and operational contingency planning.\nQualifications\nEducation\nBachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Hospitality Management, Food Service Management, or a related field required.\nMaster's degree preferred.\nExperience\nMinimum of 5 years of progressive purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or food service management experience.\nPrevious healthcare, hospital, hospitality, or institutional food service experience strongly preferred.\nSupervisory or leadership experience preferred.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nStrong understanding of procurement practices, inventory management, and vendor contract administration.\nExperience with purchasing systems, inventory management software, and Microsoft Office applications.\nExcellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.\nDemonstrated commitment to customer service and operational excellence.\nMontefiore Medical Center is an equal employment opportunity employer.
