The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. This is a Non-Bargaining, Exempt, Grade 27 position.\nThis position is eligible for telework {1} One day(s) a week. Telework eligibility and total days per week are subject to change based on the operational needs of the applicable unit/area. Montgomery College does not currently offer voluntary remote work, or withhold payroll taxes for states outside of its tax reciprocity agreements. As a result, employees must reside in, and perform any approved telework from Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, or Pennsylvania. Employees residing in other states at the time of hire are not eligible for telework until they have secured a permanent residence in one of the states listed above.\nMontgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, belonging, and inclusiveness.\nUnder general supervision and/or direction, an incumbent of this class provides tutoring and other types of direct support for students and faculty via virtual instruction, workshops and help sessions. Provides subject matter expertise in learning assistance and the interdisciplinary subject areas and develops instructional materials for training tutors and the facilitation of tutor training in consultation and coordination with faculty and staff. May assist with operations of learning center including hiring and supervising student assistants and managing resources.\nContacts are with students to provide academic support; faculty in the appropriate interdisciplinary disciplines to coordinate use of learning centers and share information regarding student support; staff of learning centers in other disciplines to provide co-mentoring for students and student development to share information and support of student engagement and community-building; and the APPEL Corps network for academic support staff to share information with other learning center staff.\nDuties include but are not limited to:\n· Provide educational and tutorial assistance.\nGuide students through the math placement process, and proactively identify those experiencing delays or difficulties.\nOffer individualized support in academic goal setting, targeted remediation, study skills, and math anxiety.\nUse positive reinforcement to encourage and motivate students and build their confidence.\nTeach effective strategies for studying and comprehending course material.\nSupport students who do not place into a math course, with the goal of helping them succeed on retesting.\nAssess students’ progress throughout tutoring sessions.\nDeliver instruction virtually, as well as workshops and help sessions.\nCollaborate with faculty to foster efficient student engagement and retention.\nDevelop and compile educational materials that expand the resource collection and ensure consistent service.\nDevelop and/or identify strategies or programs for students, including thosewith special needs. \nPerform other duties as assigned.\nRequired Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree, including at least 25 credit hours in the disciplines appropriate to the centers where services are provided (e.g. mathematics educationand mathematics). \nFive years of experience tutoring/teaching in more than one discipline. \nEligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nMaster’s degree in mathematics or math education\nHiring Range: $67,557 - $87,813 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity.
