Junior Ops Associate
Monumental is automating on-site construction with robotics and software. Our mission is to make construction software-defined and autonomous - a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings go up in a single day, with minimal labour.
We're a growing team of engineers, operators and technicians from diverse backgrounds, including consumer tech, finance and media, and companies like Dyson, Shopify, Meta and Tesla. It's still the early days of building the company, and this is a chance to make an outsized impact on a problem that matters. From day one, you'll be working with an experienced founding team, backed by a $32M Series B led by Khosla Ventures and Plural, alongside other renowned investors.
Monumental is based in the city centre of Amsterdam, in a beautiful facility with a fully equipped workshop and robot testing floor. We build the whole stack in-house, hardware and software. Our work involves building robots in our workshop and houses on real construction sites, so we're onsite five days a week.

About the role
This is a role for someone near the start of their career who wants to learn how a company actually runs by helping run it. We rarely open a role this junior, so it's an unusual way into a startup at our stage. Monumental's day-to-day people and finance operations currently sit with a lean operations team, on top of everything else that comes with scaling fast. You'll take a big part of that off their plate and own it: every new joiner has a great first week, every question gets a fast and correct answer, every invoice ties out, and every deadline with the tax authorities or UWV is met without drama.
Some of the work is unglamorous, and we won't pretend otherwise: paperwork, invoices, compliance, chasing the last detail until it's right. It is also some of the highest-leverage work in the company. When operations run cleanly, everyone else is free to build robots; when they don't, everything slows down.
It's a junior role with an unusually wide surface area, and that's the point. Within a year you'll have touched onboarding, employment law, payroll, safety, equity and the monthly finance close, and you'll understand how a startup fits together in a way very few people at your stage ever get to. You'll sit close to the founders, work directly with the operations lead, and take on harder, more sophisticated work as fast as you can earn it. Get good at this and you'll become a generalist business operator - someone who can be handed anything and make it work.
What you'll do
You'll own the two functions that keep Monumental running day to day, people ops and finance ops, plus whatever else needs a hand.
People Ops. You own how it feels to work here, from nailing someone's first week to being the person the whole team trusts with pay, equity, contracts, leave and visas. Do it well and 100+ people never think about the admin, they just build.
Finance Ops. You own the monthly close: making sure every euro we're billed is real, our suppliers are paid, and the company always knows where its cash is.
Compliance and safety. Keep us on the right side of Dutch employment and safety rules, done properly and on time so it never turns into a fire.
Automate the grind. When a process is slow or manual, your first instinct is to automate it. You lean on AI to kill the repetitive work rather than doing it by hand.
General business operations. Like everyone at Monumental, you pick up the highest-priority thing that week, often a hand for recruiting or business development. No background needed in either, just the instinct to run at whatever matters most.
Where it leads. The growth here is more judgment and autonomy, not a longer to-do list. You start by running the machine; soon you're redesigning it and making calls that used to sit with the founders, then either own a function as it grows into a team or move into broader BizOps and special projects.
What we're looking for
Eager to learn and take on anything. This is the single most important thing. The surface area is wide and shifts week to week, and the person who thrives here runs toward whatever is most valuable rather than staying in their lane. You want to become an operator, not a specialist.
Near the start of your career - a recent graduate with strong internship experience, or up to about a year of full-time work. This is a role to learn fast in, not one that needs a long track record.
Genuinely organised and completely reliable. Checklists get finished, deadlines don't slip, and nothing falls through the cracks even when ten things land at once.
Precise with numbers. You can reconcile an invoice, spot the line that doesn't add up, and not book what you can't stand behind.
Absolutely discreet. You'll handle salaries, health information and people's personal situations every day.
Warm and approachable. People should feel comfortable coming to you with a payslip question or something personal, and get a fast, helpful answer.
Comfortable with systems and tooling (an HRIS like HoorayHR, Notion, Slack) and genuinely keen to use AI to automate the repetitive parts of the job.
Process-minded, with a bias to ownership. You document what you do, spot what's broken and fix it, and where there's no checklist yet, you write it.
Fluent Dutch and English. You'll correspond with UWV, the Belastingdienst, the IND and our arbo service in Dutch, and with our international team in English.
Nice to have: exposure to Dutch employment topics (the 30% ruling, WBSO, UWV, an arbo service); experience with staffing/temp agencies (uitzendbureaus); familiarity with VCA or safety compliance in construction or manufacturing; some bookkeeping or basic finance exposure; any exposure to recruiting or business development; time at a fast-growing startup or scale-up.
