engineering team in Toronto.\nThis role is ideal for a strong hands-on engineer who can not only build high-quality software, but also design scalable system architectures, solve complex engineering problems, and deeply leverage AI to improve software development productivity and quality.\nExperience building brokerage, trading, securities, financial services, or other mission-critical backend systems is highly preferred.\nThe role will work closely with our engineering and product teams in Shenzhen, China, so strong cross-region and cross-cultural collaboration skills are important.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign, develop and maintain highly reliable and scalable backend systems.\nOwn technical design and implementation of complex business and platform capabilities.\nParticipate in system architecture design and make sound technical decisions considering scalability, reliability, maintainability, performance and security.\nBuild systems supporting brokerage and financial-service use cases, such as account management, trading, order management, positions, settlement, funding, risk management and related backend services.\nIdentify architectural and engineering bottlenecks and drive improvements to existing systems.\nWrite clean, maintainable and well-tested production code.\nConduct code reviews and contribute to strong engineering standards and best practices.\nWork closely with Product, Risk, Compliance, Operations and other engineering teams to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions.\nCollaborate closely with engineering and product teams based in Shenzhen headquarters, including technical design discussions, project delivery, system integration and issue resolution across regions.\nCommunicate effectively across different time zones, teams and technical contexts.\nTake ownership of production issues and perform systematic root-cause analysis.\nActively use AI-assisted software development tools and AI coding agents throughout the software development lifecycle.\nExplore and establish effective AI-native engineering practices, including AI-assisted coding, code review, debugging, testing, documentation, refactoring and technical research.\nContinuously improve engineering productivity while maintaining high standards for code quality, security and reliability.\nRequirements\nRequired Qualifications\n5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong hands-on engineering capabilities.\nStrong backend software development experience in one or more major programming languages such as Java, C++, Go, Python or similar languages.\nProven experience designing and building complex, distributed or highly available backend systems.\nStrong understanding of software architecture and the ability to independently design technical solutions for complex business problems.\nSolid knowledge of distributed systems, databases, APIs, messaging systems, caching, concurrency and system performance.\nStrong engineering fundamentals, including code quality, testing, observability, reliability and production troubleshooting.\nAbility to understand complex business domains and translate business requirements into scalable technical designs.\nStrong ownership mindset and the ability to independently drive projects from technical design through production deployment.\nStrong collaboration and communication skills, especially in cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.\nDeep understanding and practical use of AI-assisted software development.\nRegular hands-on experience using AI coding tools or AI coding agents to improve development productivity.\nAbility to critically review, validate and improve AI-generated code rather than simply relying on generated outputs.\nStrong interest in exploring how AI is changing software engineering workflows and development methodologies.\nHighly Preferred\nExperience developing backend systems for brokerage, securities, trading or capital markets businesses.\nExperience with systems such as:\nOrder Management Systems (OMS)\nTrading systems\nAccount and portfolio systems\nPosition and P&L systems\nClearing and settlement\nCash and funding systems\nRisk management systems\nMarket data systems\nExperience working in regulated financial environments.\nExperience designing high-volume, low-latency or mission-critical systems.\nExperience with cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps practices.\nExperience leading technical design or acting as a technical owner for major projects.\nExperience collaborating with engineering teams in China or other global engineering organizations.\nProfessional working proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is a significant plus, as
