Open to remote for the right candidate.\nThe Opportunity\nAs a Staff Backend & Platform Engineer at Moonshot, you’ll own some of the most critical systems in our stack: identity and access, funds movement and ledgering, and the blockchain infrastructure that powers our on-chain trading. This role is similar to staff engineers at leading crypto wallets and exchanges who own authentication stacks, key management, and high-scale financial backends. You’ll design, build, and operate systems that must be both highly reliable and extremely secure, enabling product teams to move quickly on a solid foundation.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign, build, and operate Identity & Access Management services:\nAuthentication flows, sessions, device trust.\n\nAuthorization and entitlements (roles, permissions, policies).\n\nSecurity controls such as MFA and key management (working with security teams).\n\nOwn financial operations systems:\nTransfers and payments orchestration.\n\nLedgering and reconciliation flows.\n\nLimits, risk controls, and transactional correctness.\n\nBuild and maintain blockchain infrastructure:\nNode and RPC management.\n\nTransaction submission, monitoring, and retry logic.\n\nIndexing and streaming of on-chain data into internal services and data stores.\n\nDefine and uphold reliability and observability standards:\nSLOs and error budgets for core services.\n\nDashboards, alerts, runbooks, and incident management practices.\n\nLead large, cross-functional technical projects from design through rollout, collaborating with Product, Security, and Ops.\n\nMentor and guide other engineers, contributing to engineering standards, design reviews, and documentation.\n\nStay close to industry best practices in auth, key management, and secure infrastructure for crypto and trading.\n\nWhat We Look For in You\n5-12+ years of backend or product or platform engineering, including experience with high-scale, high-availability systems in fintech, crypto, or similar domains.\n\nDeep expertise in at least one of:\nIdentity & access / security engineering\n\nFinancial systems / ledgering / payments\n\nBlockchain infrastructure / on-chain data\n\nStrong experience designing and operating distributed systems (datastores, queues, streaming, background workers).\n\nTrack record driving architecture decisions and seeing them through implementation and adoption.\n\nStrong operational mindset: monitoring, on-call, incident response, and postmortems.\n\nExcellent collaboration skills, especially with Product, Security, and Ops.\n\nNice to Haves\nExperience with Flutter, React Native, React, Headless CRMs\n\nExperience with Go, Rust, Solana\n\nExperience with Google Cloud or Amazon Web Services\n\nExperience with crypto wallets, exchanges, or onchain protocols including DeFi, L2s, ZK\n\nExposure to data warehousing and analytics for financial reporting.\n\nContributions to open-source projects.\n\nLocation\nNYC preferred (with periodic in-person sprints).\n\nRemote-friendly within the United States and Canada;
