Professional Tutors enhance the learning of MPTC students by informally assessing student knowledge, identifying areas needing improvement, providing supplemental instruction, clarifying assignments and course content, modeling and supporting appropriate study strategies, and guiding students toward independence and self-direction in their course work. Professional Tutors provide academic support to students in various disciplines not offered by the Student Success Center such as, Accounting, Architecture, Electricity, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Mathematics, Medical Coding, Nursing, Pharmacology, Radiography, and Respiratory Therapy. This role typically works approximately 5-10 hours per week based on the needs of students.\nWhile specific positions may not be available at the moment, submitting your application will allow us to consider you for future opportunities that align with your skills and experience.\nSuccessful candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in a related subject area. Candidates must reside within the Moraine Park Technical College service districts with flexibility to work on-campus or virtually, with flexible work hours based on student needs.\nJoin us at Moraine Park Technical College, where we strive to make a positive difference in the lives of our students!\nResponsibilities:\nComplete tutor training requirements and apply acquired skills.\nEstablish and maintain ongoing contact with assigned students and arrange regular tutor sessions, including small group and one-on-one sessions.\nConsult with course instructors as needed.\nHelp students to break down and simplify complex information taught in class.\nIntegrate effective study and learning strategies to promote independent learning.\nCoach students in developing a systemic approach to studying that will serve them in many courses.\nMaintain current and accurate records of tutoring activities and submit required communication and documentation to Tutoring Services Specialist in a timely manner.\nCommunicate with Tutoring Services Specialist to discuss additional needs or concerns of the students.\nMaintain student confidentiality according to FERPA guidelines.\nExperience & Qualifications(in addition to those listed in the summary above):\nBachelor’s Degree in related subject area required.\nExperience as a tutor or equivalent work experience in related subject area preferred.\nKnowledge of software applications, including Microsoft Office 365 (Office Suite, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).\nAbility to work with students from diverse backgrounds as well as under-prepared and special needs students.\nOrganizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.\nAbility to help with study skills, test-taking strategies, note-taking skills, and time-management.\nAbility to quickly develop and maintain a positive rapport with students, faculty and staff.\nUnderstand student strategies to support auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles.\nAbility to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication.\nAbility to maintain records of student participation and outcomes for client reporting in WTCS grants.\nAbility to maintain confidentiality and possess sensitivity to the needs of students.\nDesired Qualifications:\nMaster’s Degree in related subject area\nKnowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).\nOther Position Requirements:\n Ability to travel to MPTC Campus locations.\nHiring Range: $22.00 per hour\nStarting: Fall 2026 -
