Listed on London Stock Exchange; Member of the FTSE 250 Index.\nOverview\nWe are looking for a Tooling Engineer to join our Technical Ceramics business at Morgan Advanced Materials in Corby.\nThis is a new role and an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong tooling and manufacturing background to take responsibility for coordinating tooling projects and working closely with external toolmaking suppliers.\nYou will provide suppliers with technical requirements and information, manage tooling project timelines, and coordinate activities from initial concept and quotation through manufacture, validation and production approval. Working closely with Engineering, Production and Quality teams, you will also help resolve tooling-related manufacturing issues and identify improvements that reduce scrap, improve yield, optimise cycle times and control manufacturing costs.\nThe successful candidate will be a proactive and solutions-focused engineer with strong communication and project coordination skills, capable of building effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.\nResponsibilities\nSupport New Product Development (NPD) and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities relating to tooling and manufacturing processes.\nPrepare tooling quotations and cost estimates in response to customer RFQs and new business opportunities.\nManage tooling projects from concept through design, manufacture, validation, and final approval.\nMaintain and manage the tooling database, ensuring accurate records of tooling specifications, revisions, maintenance requirements, and lifecycle status.\nConduct regular toolmaker visits and manage external tooling suppliers to ensure delivery, quality, and performance expectations are achieved.\nOversee tooling acceptance and sign-off processes before release into production.\nDevelop, maintain, and publish quarterly Toolmaker Performance Scorecards.\nWork collaboratively with Production teams to identify tooling improvements that drive:\nScrap reduction\nYield improvement\nCycle time reduction\nManufacturing cost reduction\nGross margin improvement\nInvestigate tooling-related quality and process concerns, implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.\nLiaise directly with customers regarding tooling performance, tool life, shot counts, capability concerns, and process improvement opportunities.\nCreate and manage Design Change Requests (DCRs) for both internal and customer-driven changes.\nProvide technical manufacturing support to Production, Shift Managers, and Section Leaders as required.\nAnalyse CMM and process capability data to identify opportunities for product and process improvements.\nLead and participate in root cause investigations using recognised problem-solving methodologies, including:\n5 Why Analysis\nIshikawa (Fishbone) Diagrams\nCorrective Action Reports (CARs)\nPreventative Action Reports (PARs)\nSupport continuous improvement and quality initiatives using:\nPFMEA / FMEA\nSPC\nGauge R&R\nProcess Capability Studies\nLean Manufacturing techniques\nAssist with training and knowledge transfer activities to support the development of engineering and production personnel.\nQualifications\nQualifications / Experience Required\nRecognised Engineering qualification such as BTEC, ONC, HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Tooling, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.\nPrevious experience working with tooling within a manufacturing or engineering environment.\nExperience liaising with and managing external toolmakers, tooling suppliers or engineering subcontractors.\nGood understanding of tooling design, manufacture, maintenance and performance.\nExperience coordinating tooling projects, including managing supplier timelines, technical requirements and project deadlines.\nAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.\nStrong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills, ideally including 5 Why and Ishikawa techniques.\nExperience working collaboratively with Production, Quality and Engineering teams to resolve manufacturing and tooling issues.\nStrong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively with both suppliers and internal teams.\nGood IT skills, including Microsoft Office.\nDesirable:\nInjection moulding or Ceramic Injection Moulding (CIM) experience.\nKnowledge of CMM, PFMEA/FMEA, SPC, Gauge R&R and process capability.\nExposure to APQP, PPAP and FAIR processes.\nLean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.\nERP/MRP system experience.\nMorgan Advanced Materials is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
