You will directly influence how we build, ship, and operate software-while shaping the next generation of engineers.\nThis position is based in our Mumbai office.\nKey Responsibilities:\nEngineering Excellence\nEnforce and evolve best engineering practices:\n\nClean, maintainable, and testable code\n\nStrong code reviews (PR ownership and guardrails)\n\nCI/CD, automation, and observability\n\nPerformance, scalability, and security best practices\n\nExperience with event-driven architecture\n\nExposure to AI-assisted development workflows\n\nPrior experience working in high-scale, client-facing platforms\n\nTechnical Leadership & Delivery\nLead end-to-end design and delivery of scalable, high-performance applications\n\nLead development and maintenance of both live production systems and legacy applications, ensuring stability while progressively modernizing the platform\n\nBalance business continuity with technical evolution, reducing technical debt without impacting client delivery\n\nOwn system architecture decisions across frontend, backend, and data layers\n\nDrive full-stack development with strong focus on backend (Java) and modern frontend frameworks\n\nEnsure systems are resilient, observable, and production-ready\n\nQuality Ownership & Shift-Left Mindset\nChampion a shift-left engineering approach, where quality is owned by engineers from design to production\n\nEnsure features are built with testability, observability, and validation in mind from day one\n\nDrive practices such as unit testing, integration testing, and automation as part of development-not post-development\n\nEliminate dependency on downstream QA by embedding quality checks within the development lifecycle\n\nFoster a culture where engineers are accountable for the correctness and reliability of their code in production\n\nSquad Leadership & Mentorship\nLead a squad of engineers (junior to mid-level), providing technical guidance and mentorship\n\nSet clear expectations on delivery, code quality, and ownership\n\nActively coach engineers to improve design thinking, coding standards, and debugging skills\n\nProduct & Stakeholder Collaboration\nPartner closely with Product Managers to understand business priorities and translate them into clear technical execution plans\n\nDrive clarity in requirements, scope, and trade-offs\n\nEnsure alignment between business goals and engineering outcomes\n\nAI-Enabled Development\nLeverage AI tools (e.g., company approved coding assistants) to improve productivity and speed\n\nEnsure thoughtful and responsible usage-not blind reliance\n\nGuide the team in using AI for the right problem statements (automation, acceleration, not shortcuts)\n\nOwnership & Accountability\nTake end-to-end ownership of systems and deliverables\n\nBe accountable for delivery timelines, quality, and production stability\n\nProactively identify risks, resolve blockers, and drive outcomes without dependency\n\nContribute to internal knowledge sharing through documentation, technical talks, or workshops.\n\nShowcase delivery outcomes and business impact to stakeholders through clear, structured, and data-driven communication.\n\nRequired Skills & Qualifications:\nBachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.\n\n7+ years of Strong backend expertise in Java (Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices architecture)\n\nExperience in full-stack development (modern frontend frameworks like Vue/React preferred)\n\nDeep understanding of databases (SQL/NoSQL, schema design, performance tuning)\n\nHands-on experience with AWS cloud services (compute, storage, networking, observability)\n\nStrong grasp of system design, scalability, and distributed systems\n\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and monitoring tools\n\nProven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams\n\nStrong sense of ownership and accountability-you don’t wait, you drive\n\nAbility to balance speed with quality-both are non-negotiable\n\nClear, structured thinking and communication\n\nBias for action with data-driven decision making\n\nAbility to operate in ambiguity and bring clarity\n\nCommitment to continuous learning and improving the team around you\n\nMorningstar is an equal opportunity employer.\nIf you receive and accept an offer from us, we require that personal and any related investments be disclosed confidentiality to our Compliance team (days vary by region).
