This position is based in our Toronto office.\nJob Responsibilities:\nDesign, develop, test, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance applications using C#/.NET, SQL Server, and AWS technologies.\nBuild and optimize backend services, RESTful APIs, data processing pipelines, and database-driven applications.\nApply object-oriented design principles, design patterns, and software engineering best practices to deliver maintainable, high-quality solutions.\nDevelop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database operations to improve performance and scalability.\nLeverage AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent solutions, to improve coding efficiency, debugging, refactoring, unit testing, and code quality.\nExplore and evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify practical opportunities to improve engineering productivity, automation, and application capabilities.\nParticipate in code reviews, automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous deployment processes.\nCollaborate with product managers, business analysts, QA engineers, and other development teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.\nTroubleshoot complex technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions.\nContribute to cloud infrastructure modernization, application performance optimization, and engineering automation initiatives.\nTake ownership of assigned deliverables, proactively identify risks, and drive tasks through completion.\nParticipate in a rotating on-call schedule to support production systems and maintain operational reliability.\nContinuously learn, share technical knowledge, and contribute to improving engineering practices across the team.\nQualifications:\nBachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.\n2+ years of professional software development experience building and supporting production applications.\nStrong programming skills in C# and .NET, including object-oriented programming, asynchronous programming, and application design.\nStrong SQL Server development skills, including T-SQL, stored procedures, query optimization, and database performance troubleshooting.\nExperience developing RESTful APIs, backend services, and database-driven applications.\nHands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, SQS, API Gateway, ECS, or similar cloud technologies.\nFamiliarity with AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or equivalent solutions, and an understanding of how to use them effectively and responsibly in development workflows.\nSolid understanding of software design principles, common design patterns, and building scalable and reliable systems.\nExperience with unit testing, automated testing, debugging, and code review practices.\nFamiliarity with Git-based source control, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation tools such as Harness, AWS CodePipeline, or equivalent technologies.\nUnderstanding of application security, secure coding practices, and common web application vulnerabilities.\nExperience working in Agile development environments and using collaboration tools such as Jira.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.\nAbility to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively within a cross-functional engineering team\nPreferred Skills:\n- Python and/or Java Experience\n- Machine Learning Familiarity\nBase Salary Compensation Range\n$73,791.00-$108,225.00Incentive Target Percentage\n7.5% AnnualMorningstar's hybrid work environment gives you the opportunity to collaborate in-person each week as we've found that we're at our best when we're purposely together on a regular basis.
