The Program Coordinator works closely with the Recreation Supervisor to ensure consistent program operations, staff development, student safety, and quality programming across multiple locations. This position provides leadership and support to Site Supervisors and counselors and may assume full Site Supervisor responsibilities when needed. Work is performed independently and as part of a team and may vary depending on program needs and school schedules.\nQualifications:\nMust be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience working with school-age children is required. Previous supervisory, recreation, childcare, or educational experience is preferred. Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills are required. Must be able to independently supervise a program site, provide direction to staff, and respond appropriately to unexpected situations. CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required or must be obtained within three months of employment. Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel between program locations.\nImmediate Supervisor:\nThe BASE Program Coordinator is directly responsible to the Recreation Supervisor - Aquatics, B4 School & B.A.S.E.\nEssential Functions:\nAssists with daily operations of all B4 and BASE program locations to ensure consistent procedures, expectations, and program quality.\nProvides leadership, guidance, and support to Site Supervisors and program counselors.\nTravels between program locations to monitor operations and provide assistance as needed.\nAssumes Site Supervisor responsibilities when staffing coverage is needed.\nAssists with employee scheduling, call-offs, staffing adjustments, onboarding, and training.\nSupports staff development by providing coaching, feedback, and guidance regarding program expectations.\nEnsures proper supervision of students during program activities, transitions, arrival, and dismissal.\nMonitors student attendance and maintains accurate program records and documentation.\nPromotes a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for all participants.\nAssists with planning and implementing age-appropriate activities and recreational programming.\nSupports positive behavior management and appropriate student redirection.\nCommunicates effectively with parents, school personnel, District staff, and supervisors.\nResponds to parent concerns and assists with resolving program-related issues.\nResponds appropriately to accidents, incidents, injuries, and emergencies.\nEnsures accident and incident reports are completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.\nAssists with maintaining program supplies, materials, and equipment.\nSupports Early Release Days, School Day Off programs, and other school-age activities.\nMaintains confidentiality of student, family, and employee information.\nPositive interaction and cooperation with all staff and the public.\nParticipation in the Park District Safety Program and its directives.\nMarginal Functions:\nAssisting with special events and other recreation programs as needed.\nAssisting with staff meetings, orientations, and training sessions.\nProviding administrative support, including maintaining records, preparing materials, and organizing program information.\nPerforming other duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.\nPsychological Considerations:\nMust work closely with children, parents, co-workers, school personnel, and the general public. Must be able to handle stressful situations, respond to behavioral concerns, and resolve conflicts in a professional manner. Must work under the supervision and direction of superiors while also being capable of working independently. Must demonstrate patience, sound judgment, flexibility, and the ability to supervise staff and students in a busy program environment.\nPhysiological Considerations:\nMust be able to stand, walk, bend, sit, and participate in recreational activities for extended periods. May be required to lift and move program supplies and equipment. Must be physically capable of supervising children, responding to emergencies, and actively participating in indoor and outdoor activities.\nEnvironmental Considerations:\nPrimarily exposed to indoor school and recreation environments, including classrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and other program areas. May also be exposed to outside weather conditions during outdoor activities, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. May be exposed to noise, cleaning materials, and other conditions commonly associated with school-age recreation programs.\nCognitive Considerations:\nMust be able to follow directions from supervisors with safe follow-through. Must demonstrate good safety awareness, sound judgment, and attention to detail. Must be able to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities, communicate effectively, and make appropriate decisions when supervising staff and children. Must recognize potential safety concerns, respond to emergencies, and maintain accurate program records.\nSchedule:\nThis is a part-time position working approximately 20-25 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday during afternoon BASE programming. Additional morning, administrative, training, Early Release Day, and School Day Off hours may be required.
