Accession/Process and label aliquots specimens(s) (blood, hair, stool, saliva, urine) for Laboratory analysis.\nEssential Job Duties:\nLevel I - Minimum\nAccept/Receive/Log all incoming specimens in Clinical Paks, bags and boxes from Couriers in Dock Area \nAssist with separating and sorting Domestic and International specimens \nOpen individual Clinical Paks, boxes and specimen containers removing specimens \nMatch identifications from TRF's and electronic orders to the labeling on the patient sample \nAliquot specimens into appropriately labeled and identified containers, per SOP\nAccurate data entry of patient order information into Portal\nInventory samples in LIMS \nDiscard specimens in the processing refrigerator and freezer \nAttention to detail in all duties and activities. \nTroubleshoots potential problem specimens and notifies Lead or Manager\nFollow documentation procedures when a sample issue is identified\nPrepare and stabilize specimens In-House for shipment to reference laboratory\nPerform clerical and administrative tasks making copies of test request forms, filing, and scanning\nManage time according to meeting Department Turnaround times\nMaintains patient confidentiality for all MDX facilities and Clients \nAble to comply with all applicable Health Regulations including Federal, State and Local Safety and HIPAA regulations\nCollaborate effectively with lab staff and contribute to an efficient and well-organized work environment\nOther duties as assigned by management\nLevel II - Fully meets the responsibilities of Level I plus the following:\nAssist with troubleshooting sample related issues and resolving potential issues \nCommunicate with Client’s through email, fax or voice\nAbility to assist Manager in providing direction of workflow for the Department\nInteraction with other Departments as needed and build a relationship with other Leaders and Management\nCommunication within the Department with Manager to focus on needs\nConduct training as needed\nLevel III- Fully meets the responsibilities of Level II plus the following:\nCommunicate with Clients through email, fax or voice\nAble to demonstrate MDX Core values at all times\nEnsure all department staff follow policies and procedures\nAble to act in absence of department Lead, and shift staffing according to workflow\nRequirements\nEssential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:\nLevel I - Minimum\nHigh School Diploma and/or associate degree in biology or the equivalent combination of work experience.? \nMedical terminology is preferred, but not required\nExcellent Basic Communication Skill \nProfessionalism? \nAbility to be at work on time and have flexibility? \nComputer data entry experience is highly recommended\nTeam Oriented? \nPrevious experience in phlebotomy, two years preferred, but not required\nTeam oriented? \nLevel II - Fully meets the qualifications of Level I plus the following:\nMinimum of two years as a Laboratory Support Specialist I or equivalent experience\nAccelerated knowledge of data entry? \nAdvanced knowledge of laboratory accessioning protocol? \nLevel III - Fully meets the qualifications of Level II plus the following:\nMinimum of 3 years as a Laboratory Support Specialist or equivalent experience \nExpanded knowledge of laboratory testing equipment\nAbility to read and analyze medical forms\nWorking understanding of Medical Terminology\nPhysical Requirements:\nPhysical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead\nAbility to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting\nAbility to stand for extended periods of time as necessary \nAbility to lift and move items weighing up to 20 pounds\nPhysical dexterity sufficient to move body frequently around laboratory equipment and instrumentation\nAbility to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours)\nMental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions\nThe essential physical and mental requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
