As an experienced underwriter, you will be responsible for reviewing and assessing the financial risk of new and existing customers, while making decisions based on policy guidelines. You should have experience and subject matter expertise in financial services, end-to-end underwriting lifecycle, portfolio management, bank statement and financial decisioning, and risk assessment. \nYou’ll evaluate applications, perform analysis that mitigate financial risk, and make timely and accurate decisions on application outcomes. The successful candidate will work as a member of our Risk Organization and collaborate with members from our sales, data science, product management, and other stakeholders to deliver best in class customer experience.\nWhat You'll Do:\nCollect, review and analyze applicants' relevant financial, demographic, and historic information and records. This includes, but is not limited to, analysis of business financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements, bank statements, and credit reports\nDirectly communicate with clients & sales about application status \nClearly articulate why and when additional documents are needed in order to determine a client's creditworthiness\nMake determination whether to approve, decline or seek an exception for an application based on policy guidelines\nMake quality decisions in a timely and efficient manner within expected SLA\nPerform portfolio management, evaluating and identifying suspicious or questionable items\nRecommend policy and process improvement to mitigate potential failure points throughout the underwriting journey\nBank statement analysis, financial spreading and risk ratio analysis culminating with underwriting memo \nWhat We're Looking For:\n2-5 years of underwriting experience in financial services, high-growth payments, or fintech company\nStrong critical reasoning, problem solving and analytical skills\nAbility to work independently and thrive in a collaborative team environment\nExcellent oral and written communication skills\nFamiliar with fundamentals of financial risk assessment\nFamiliar with the U.S. compliance, lending & regulatory environment (KYC, Reg B, Reg Z, UDAAP, FCBA, Truth in Lending Act)\nExperience with quantitative and qualitative analysis\nStrong organization, and time management skills\nProven experience with bank based & financial underwriting\nHighly motivated, organized, reliable, and has demonstrated competency in mathematics and financial spreading\nCreating a diverse and inclusive workplace is one of Motive's core values.
