We’re a global close-knit community, united by the relentless pursuit to help keep people safer everywhere. We build and connect technologies to help protect people, property and places. Our solutions foster the collaboration that’s critical for safer communities, safer schools, safer hospitals, safer businesses, and ultimately, safer nations. Connect with a career that matters, and help us build a safer future.\nDepartment Overview\nTBCJob Description\nRole Summary\nWe're looking for Pre-Sales Application Engineers to join our team. This is a hands-on, customer-facing technical role that sits between our product portfolio and our customers' real-world needs.\nYou'll be a technical authority in the sales cycle - helping turn customer requirements into credible solutions built around CRFS products. You'll work directly with our equipment, push the boundaries of what it can do, and help inform Product Managers to shape how new products are positioned and taken to market. Expect a mix of lab work, customer meetings, demonstrations, field visits, and practical problem-solving. No two weeks will look the same.\nWhat You’ll Do\nSupport the sales team technically - from initial qualification through to contract award.\n\nLead or contribute to customer meetings, presentations, workshops, and live\n\ndemonstrations. Translate what customers need into solutions that are technically sound.\n\nKnow our products inside out - develop deep, hands-on expertise across the full CRFS portfolio: hardware, software, and system-level solutions.\n\nBe an early adopter of products in development, feed practical insights back to the product organisation, and stay ahead of what's coming next on the roadmap.\n\nAct as a key conduit between the sales team and the product teams, helping ensure customer needs and market signals flow effectively in both directions.\n\nBuild and demonstrate solutions - create realistic demonstration scenarios, test product capabilities against specific customer requirements, assess interoperability with third- party systems, and produce application notes and technical collateral that bring our products to life in context.\n\nGet into the field - deploy to customer sites and field locations to support complex operations, gain first-hand experience of how our equipment performs in real conditions, and bring those lessons back to strengthen our pre-sales work.\n\nWrite well and present confidently - prepare and deliver technical presentations, proposals, and bid contributions to a high standard.\n\nTailor your communication to the audience, whether that's a senior military officer, a procurement lead, or a hands-on signals analyst.\n\nTroubleshoot under pressure - when things don't behave as expected in the lab, during a demo, or in the field, diagnose and resolve issues calmly, methodically, and in front of customers if necessary.\n\nKeep developing - continuously build your expertise in RF engineering, spectrum monitoring, electronic warfare, and adjacent domains.\n\nContribute to internal knowledge- sharing and represent CRFS at industry conferences, exhibitions, and technical forums as appropriate.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For - Technical Competency\nThis role demands genuine technical depth, not just familiarity. You should be able to demonstrate practical, working knowledge across the following areas:\nRF fundamentals - propagation, antenna theory, signal processing, modulation schemes, spectrum analysis. Hands-on experience with RF equipment or spectrum monitoring systems.\n\nLinux - confident and capable at the command line. Able to configure, troubleshoot, and administer Linux-based systems, including headless and embedded platforms.\n\nNetworking - solid understanding of TCP/IP, IP addressing, VLANs, routing, DNS, DHCP, and firewall rules. Practical experience configuring managed switches and using diagnostic tools.\n\nScripting and development - competent in scripting for automation, data processing, integration, and building lightweight demo applications.\n\nFamiliarity with REST APIs and JSON/XML data exchange.\n\nTroubleshooting - structured, first-principles approach to fault diagnosis across hardware, software, network, and RF domains.\n\nAble to isolate issues, apply workarounds under time pressure, and communicate findings clearly to engineering.\n\nCustomer-Facing Capability\n\nTechnical knowledge alone isn't enough. You need to be someone customers trust, enjoy working with, and want to see again.\n\nConfident presenting and demonstrating to audiences ranging from small technical working groups to large conference settings.\n\nSkilled at listening - understanding not just what a customer is asking for, but what they actually need.\n\nAble to manage expectations honestly, handle challenging questions, and maintain composure when things don't go to plan.\n\nClear, precise written and spoken English. Able to produce high-quality technical documents and proposals.\n\nCulturally aware and adaptable when working with international customers.\n\nBasic Requirements\nEssential Requirements\nDegree (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, RF/Telecommunications Engineering,\n\nPhysics, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.\n\nDemonstrable experience in a technical pre-sales, application engineering, or systems engineering role - ideally within the RF, defence, or telecommunications sectors.\n\nStrong practical knowledge of RF principles and hands-on experience with RF equipment.\n\nProficiency in Linux systems.\n\nSolid working knowledge of IP networking and configuration.\n\nCompetence in a scripting language for practical tasks.\n\nProven ability to present, demonstrate, and communicate technical concepts to varied audiences.\n\nWillingness to travel within the UK and internationally (estimated 10-40% of time).\n\nEligibility to obtain and maintain UK security clearance (SC minimum).\n\nDesirable Requirements\nExperience with CRFS products or comparable RF spectrum monitoring / geolocation\n\nsystems.\n\nFamiliarity with SDR platforms, electronic warfare, SIGINT, or COMINT concepts.\n\nExperience in defence or government customer environments.\n\nExposure to Docker, Git, or API-driven integration work.\n\nCompensation:\nIn return for your expertise, we’ll support you in this new challenge with development\nevery step of the way. Also, to reward your hard work you’ll get:\nCompetitive salary and bonus schemes.\n\nTwo weeks additional pay per year (holiday bonus).\n\n25 days holiday entitlement plus bank holidays.\n\nAttractive defined contribution pension scheme.\n\nEmployee stock purchase plan.\n\nLife assurance.\n\nEnhanced maternity and paternity pay.\n\nCareer development support and wide-ranging learning opportunities.\n\nEmployee health and wellbeing support including EAP and wellbeing guidance.\n\nCarbon neutral initiatives and goals.\n\nCorporate social responsibility initiatives including support for volunteering days.\n\nWell-known companies discount scheme.\n\nTravel Requirements\nNoneRelocation Provided\nNonePosition Type\nExperiencedReferral Payment Plan\nNoCompany\nMotorola Solutions UK LimitedEEO Statement\nMotorola Solutions is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
