The products are aimed at public and commercial safety. The team is responsible for the development of the complete products, including hardware, firmware and mechanics and takes care of the whole development life-cycle that includes development, testing and maintenance of the systems we build.Job Description\nAbility to work in a hybrid arrangement (office located in Ware).\nMotorola Solutions is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Silent Sentinel team in order to facilitate the development of ongoing projects.\nThe successful candidate will be self-motivated and can have autonomy in their work with the confidence to reach out when support is required. This person will collaborate with various stakeholders within and external to the engineering department, as they work to produce reliable products and production methods.\nThe role of this person is primarily to design enclosures and mechanisms, fit for harsh environments, including (but not limited to) -40°C, marine conditions, and MIL STD. Designs will be produced on CAD (Solidworks) and be translated to both technical drawings, and build guides. These must be legible to all who will read them in the production, quality and manufacturing sectors.\nFinally, the successful candidate will have a great attention to detail as they will be inspecting drawings before they are released for manufacture. This attention to detail will be critical when testing prototypes or when assisting production with troubleshooting. Anyone successful enough to be invited for an interview must be able to demonstrate a basic portfolio with relevant work.\nResponsibilities will be to:\nCollaborate with internal machine shop (different site) and suppliers to achieve company objectives\n\nProduce supporting documentation to allow for an independent production team.\n\nUse 3D modeling software to design parts, assemblies and mechanisms using a variety of materials and fabrication technologies (most notably, machining, 3D printing and laser cutting and folding).\n\nEstimate amount of work required to complete proposed tasks.\n\nCreate detailed production-quality fabrication drawings, design documentation, and assembly drawings for new and existing components.\n\nDrawing and design review to ensure the team delivers high quality material to stakeholders.\n\nProducing specification and development of designs, prototypes, and test fixtures\n\nMechanical Testing and verification of parts/products and report creation\n\nDesign improvement during the ECR (Engineering Change Request) process\n\nSupport other engineering disciplines in the department to ensure they can meet their objectives.\n\nCommunicate effectively with other engineering teams to ensure the designed product takes into consideration their needs.\n\nBasic Requirements\nFluency in English (spoken and written)\n\nCAD experience in Solidworks (3D modelling, 2D technical drawings, BoM production)\n\nKnowledge of material properties, manufacturing techniques, plating methods, coatings and fasteners\n\nAbility to travel between Ware (main office) and Sandy (machine shop) on short notice.\n\nExcellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise documentation\n\nSelf-motivated with the ability to learn quickly and independently while also work within a team\n\nA demonstrated pragmatic approach to problem solving\n\nAbility to design for manufacture and assembly\n\nAbility to implement designs that are ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing would be an asset\n\nFamiliarity with IP ratings and methods of achieving IP67\n\nBeing able to design and carry out relevant tests to help achieve high product quality\n\nAbility to justify design decisions with calculations, analysis and written documentation.\n\nExperience in FEA and thermal simulation would be advantageous.\n\nIn return for your expertise, we’ll support you in this new challenge with coaching & development every step of the way.
