You will be joining the Systems Integration team at the Elgin Experience Center-the critical bridge where customer needs and technological solutions converge. Here, our engineering team:\n- Stages systems with technology innovations which give Motorola Solutions a competitive edge in quality, speed, and delivery.\n- Hosts hundreds of customers annually to finalize and test designs for mission-critical emergency call-handling solutions.\n- Partners with field teams to deploy infrastructure that directly supports first responders and private enterprises.\nJob Description\nThe Role\nAs an Engineering Intern, you will work in a people-first culture focused on expanding human potential. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build, integrate, and stage complex infrastructure ecosystems. We look for innovative thinkers who are driven, accountable, and passionate about solving hands-on technical problems.\nKey Responsibilities\nInfrastructure Deployment: Execute the system staging process to build, image, deploy, and maintain robust infrastructure footprints.\nVirtualization & OS: Provision and support VMware vSphere and Red Hat KVM virtualization environments; construct and manage unified Microsoft Windows Server architectures, Active Directory, and Linux operating systems.\n Network & Security: Build, connect, and troubleshoot Cisco networking equipment (switches and routers); deploy enterprise Fortinet firewall solutions to optimize defense, traffic separation, and information flows.\nCommunications Tech: Integrate analog, digital, and SIP-based audio processing technologies to support real-time critical communication feeds.\nRoot-Cause Analysis: Analyze system behaviors and isolate performance anomalies across multi-vendor hardware, software, virtualization, and networking stacks.\nProject Ownership: Complete a dedicated summer continuous-improvement project, owning all aspects from ideation to execution and presenting your findings to leadership.\nPreferred Skills\nAI & Tech Fluency: Familiarity with generative AI tools for coding efficiency, data analysis, or process automation.\nData-Driven Mindset: Experience with data analysis and statistical concepts to identify trends, interpret data, and drive continuous improvements.\nCommunication & Collaboration: Strong ability to explain complex technical issues or methodologies clearly to cross-functional, non-technical stakeholders.\nStructured Problem-Solving: Ability to approach technical challenges logically, prioritize tasks effectively, and drive results in a team setting.\nThe Intern Experience: What We Offer\nLeadership Exposure: Participate in senior leadership meetings, gaining direct insights on career growth and networking within a global organization.\nMentorship: Work 1:1 with experienced staff engineers who are invested in your technical development.\nReal-World Impact: Build the actual systems that keep first responders and communities safe.\nCareer Pathways: Gain experience that positions you for future full-time engineering opportunities within Motorola Solutions.\nThis position is located on-site in Elgin, Illinois.\nBasic Requirements\nWorking towards a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, IT Networking, or a related discipline.\nMust have an expected graduation date between 12/2028 and 6/2030.\nLegal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required.
