As part of our wider Rail Systems Team spanning Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto, this position provides the opportunity to contribute to the growth of our Ontario operations, including collaboration with other subject matter experts across various projects, occasionally witnessing works on active construction sites, and contributing to long-term business development opportunities. This role will report to the Rail Systems Lead for Central Canada.\nWorking within Mott MacDonald's Rail Systems practice, the successful candidate will be supported by senior signalling, systems engineering, testing and commissioning specialists across Canada and North America to further develop technical and project leadership capabilities. The position offers a clear development pathway towards Signalling Lead and Project Manager responsibilities.\nSupport design efforts and provide oversight on signalling and train control systems for heavy rail, passenger rail, and transit projects\nReview signaling system designs, specifications, installation, and testing plans for compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines\nProvide technical advisory services and input to clients in the development of system requirements and contract documents for signaling and train control systems projects\nSupport testing, commissioning, migration, cutover, and operational readiness activities, occasionally necessitating attendance on site\nContribute to the development, adoption, and delivery of railway signaling design processes within Mott MacDonald’s North American practices\nLead the signalling elements of project bids and project delivery within Mott MacDonald Canada, including interfacing with Infrastructure Design, Project and Systems Engineering teams together with budget development as necessary\nApply lessons learned and advise on necessary corrective actions for ongoing projects\nProvide technical support to teams at all stages of the Project life cycle\nDevelop and work with key delivery partners and service providers for projects\nEngage with end clients as and when necessary\nCandidate Specifications:\nBachelors Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering/Science (preferably Electrical/Mechanical/Systems Engineering)\nAt least 7 years’ progressive experience in Signals design, specification, installation, or maintenance with significant experience in heavy rail or passenger rail and transit projects\nProfessional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation from PEO, or eligible for license\nDemonstrable experience in one or more of the following, with awareness of the remainder:\nConventional signalling systems\nCommunications-Based Train Control (CBTC)\nPositive Train Control (PTC)\nEuropean Train Control System (ETCS)\nExperience working on Canadian, American, UK, Australian, or other international railway systems\nDemonstrable strength in a minimum of one of the following, with awareness of the remainder:\nAREMA Standards\nIEC 15288: 2015\nSystems Integration and Interface Management\nIEEE 1474.1\nCENELEC - EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129\nShows strong written and verbal communication skills and English fluency\nDemonstrates interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team\nAble to hold competent technical discussions with Client representatives\nAble to interface with domain specialists, design managers and construction project managers, in a competent professional manner\nBroad experience of delivery within major infrastructure projects\nKnowledge of railway systems and / or operation within infrastructure projects / technology development and implementation projects\nFlexible to travel to client and vendor sites within the Greater Toronto Area on a regular basis as required by the project(s)\nKnowledge or experience with European Train Control Systems (ETCS) is desirable\nINCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification is desirable\nBring your expertise, curiosity, and drive to make a difference.
