Financial Analyst III - M&A / Corporate Development

** Work Arrangement/Location: This is a hybrid position requiring in-office work four days every week, based at the One M&T Plaza office in Buffalo, NY.

Some flexibility on location for an ideal candidate.

Overview:

Corporate Development works closely with M&T’s business units and senior management to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to the merger and acquisition (M&A) process. This role primarily focuses on financial analysis in support of potential internal and external capital investment opportunities through valuation, risk assessment, and deal structuring; as well as, peer analysis regarding performance, merger-related activities, and capital actions, to assist senior management in implementing the bank’s strategy. In addition, the person in this role may be asked to conduct highly technical research and analysis of projects to provide senior management with definitive financial data and advice for their use in setting and realizing strategic objectives.

PrimaryResponsibilities:

• Assisting withtheevaluationofpotentialM&Aopportunities,includingfinancialanalysis,valuation,structuring,andcoordinationofduediligenceefforts,whichinvolveextensiveinteractionwithvariousgroupsthroughoutthebank.
• Conductingfinancialandvaluationanalysisregardingacquisition,investmentanddivestitureopportunitiesusingdiscountedcashflowanalysis,marketmultiples,andotherfinancialandanalyticaltools.
• Conduct independent research and complex analyticalprojectsinvolvingfinancialmodeling/forecastingtoprovideseniormanagementwithdefinitivefinancialtrenddataandadvicefortheiruseinsettingandrealizingobjectives.Designprojectsandmayleadprojectsofmoderatescope.
• Conduct independent research and analytical projects involving financial modeling/forecasting to provideseniormanagementwithdefinitivefinancialtrenddataandadvicefortheiruseinsettingandrealizingstrategicobjectives.Assistwiththedesignofprojectsandmayleadprojectsofmoderatescope.
• Ensuresuccessthroughsharedresponsibilityofteamworkloadtoachievedepartment/projectobjectives(volume,quality,timelinessofendresults).
• Perform detailed, interpretative financial analysis utilizing complex financial tools to demonstrate scenarios/activities. Build and maintain forecasting models/tools;workincollaborationwithbusinessgroupstoprovideinsightfulanalysis.Playaroleincross-functionaleffortsandteams,leveragingresourcesandrelationshipsacrosstheBanktofurtherteamandprojectgoals.
• Createandmaintaindocumentationofassignedtasks/processes.
• Evaluatesituationsusingmultiplesourcesofinformationandsuggestinsightfulconclusions.
• Displayadvancedproficiencyinthesystems/toolsusedtogeneratestandardfinancialreportsonaperiodicbasis.
• Demonstrateadvancedknowledgeoffinanceandaccountingconceptsthroughtheaggregationoffinancialdata.
• DisplayanunderstandingofM&T's(orapplicableBusinessUnit's)financialstatements,includingawarenessofkeydriversandtrendsinmajorBalanceSheetandIncomeStatementlineitems.
• ParticipateintraininganddevelopmentopportunitiesacrossFinanceandtheBank.
• Understand,adhereto,andcontributetotheimprovementandtimelinessofdeliverablesandprocessefficiency.
• UnderstandandadheretotheCompany'sriskandregulatorystandards,policies,andcontrolsinaccordancewiththeCompany'sRiskAppetite.Identifyrisk-relatedissuesneedingescalationtomanagement.
• PromoteanenvironmentthatsupportsbelongingandreflectstheM&TBankbrand.
• MaintainM&Tinternalcontrolstandards,includingtimelyimplementationofinternalandexternalauditpointstogetherwithanyissuesraisedbyexternalregulators,asapplicable.
• Completeotherrelateddutiesasassigned.

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibility:

May train junior staff

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience OR Associate's degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting auditing, operations or financial institutions

Comprehensive understanding of finance and accounting concepts + knowledge of banking industry

Strong technical aptitude and advanced financial modeling skills

Education and Experience Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or related field. Financial Services Industry experience
