This role is ideal for an experienced mobile engineer with strong expertise in either Android or iOS development, with preference given to candidates who have experience across both platforms.\nThe ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building enterprise-grade mobile applications, preferably within banking, fintech, or other regulated industries. They will possess a strong understanding of secure mobile development practices, automated testing, modern development frameworks, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to technical leadership within the team.\nPrimary Responsibilities:\nDesign, develop, and maintain mobile applications for banking and financial services on Android and/or iOS platforms.\nBuild high-quality native applications using Android technologies (Java, Kotlin) and/or iOS technologies (Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, Objective-C).\nCollaborate with product managers, designers, architects, backend engineers, and other cross-functional partners to deliver exceptional customer experiences.\nExperience implementing secure mobile applications, including secure credential/token handling, encryption, certificate/network security, biometric authentication, secure local storage, protection of sensitive data, and secure API communication.\nFamiliarity with mobile application security principles and common mobile threats, including OWASP Mobile Application Security / MASVS concepts.\nExperience integrating mobile applications with RESTful APIs and backend services, including authentication, error handling, caching, serialization, and resilient network communication.\nDevelop and maintain automated tests to ensure application reliability, performance, and maintainability.\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex production issues using application logs, crash data, diagnostics, and performance analysis, with emphasis on root-cause identification and preventative remediation.\nWork autonomously, managing priorities and delivering results in a fast-paced environment.\nMentor engineers, conduct code and design reviews, and contribute to technical leadership, architecture decisions, engineering standards, and mobile development best practices.\nStay current with mobile development trends, frameworks, tools, and emerging technologies across Android and iOS ecosystems.\nDesign, improve, and support CI/CD pipelines, build automation, code-quality controls, and mobile application release processes.\nUnderstand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. In lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 7 years’ education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ systems analysis and/or application development work experience\nAdvanced proficiency in minimum of 1 relevant programming language.\nEducation and Experience Preferred:\nExperience working in banking, fintech, or other highly regulated industries.\nDemonstrated experience designing and evolving modular mobile application architectures with clear separation of concerns, maintainability, testability, and scalability. Experience with architecture patterns such as MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, or comparable patterns.\nExperience with automated testing frameworks such as:Android: Espresso, JUnit, Mockito\niOS: XCTest, Quick, Nimble\n\nFamiliarity with secure mobile development practices, including encryption, secure storage, biometric authentication, and application security controls.\nExperience developing applications on both Android and iOS platforms.\nExperience with modern UI frameworks such as Jetpack Compose and/or SwiftUI.\nFamiliarity with modern build systems and development tooling.\nExperience with platform-specific build and dependency-management tooling such as Gradle on Android and Swift Package Manager/Tuist on iOS.\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated deployment processes.\nKnowledge of accessibility and compliance standards, including ADA and WCAG.\nExperience integrating with banking, payments, identity, fraud, or other financial-services APIs.\nExperience using mobile application monitoring, crash reporting, profiling, and performance-analysis tools.\nPublished applications in the Google Play Store and/or Apple App Store.\nExperience leading technical initiatives, mentoring developers, and contributing to mobile architecture decisions.\nM&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $97,100.00 - $161,800.00 Annual (USD).
